Message read settings

Is there any easy way to mark ALL messages as read? When I look at new messages, sometimes it still doesn’t mark the thread as having been read. I know that I can mark each section as read but, since that takes a lot of time, I would like to be able to do everything at once.

I prefer the way that MLS works. When I go into the forum, everything is automatically marked as read.

Right now you can only mark the whole forum, not an individual thread. What usually is the problem is the New Posts when they roll over to the next page. New Posts takes you to the last page, but there are posts on the previous page that are still new to you.

Personally, I don’t like the way MLS marks the entire forum read. Sometimes I only have time to read one or two posts and when I come back later I like to see what I still haven’t read. That being said, an option to mark as read would come in handy, especially in the Off Topic forum

I usually read the ones I want to and then hit the “Mark all as read” on stuff that I have no interest in like DCC.

Right now the system tracks which MESSAGES you have read. While this gives the finest detail, its mind-bogglingly slow (note the delay when going to the main forums page).

The best option I can come up with so far is to track which THREAD you have read. That will eliminate the “Which single message in this 20 page thread haven’t I read?” hunt that you have to do. I’ve been leaning toward changing the code to do that.

I like the forums that track the last time you read a thread. Then it takes you to the first post after that. If you don’t read it all…well, how’s it going to know?

I like the way it is now. I know which thread I’ve read.
Which thread has new messages I haven’t read is information I can use.

Bob,

My only objection is how long it takes to mark the General Forum as read. I usually open 2 browsers so that I can continue reading forums while I mark another one as read.

That seems like a workable idea.
