Large Scale Central

Memorial weekend running

My poor old Stainz put in 10 hours nonstop on Friday and 7 hours today… and probably will be outside some more tomorrow, if it don’t rain. Friday’s passenger train rolls through Hitch Gap

The water lily has decided to actually BLOOM for the first time since I bought it 9 years ago.

I re-located the Eli Junction switchman’s shanty from the indoor layout in a box while looking for yard sale stuff

Today’s peddlar freight, the tank car is carrying fuel oil so it must be away from both engine and caboose… Wouldn’t want to upset the ICC (the FRA wasn’t created until 1966!).

Giant Gnome Farm has gained a concrete silo courtesy of someone’s junk pile, and a Slik-Toy Minnie Mo with plow. They seem to be almost ready to harvest a bumper crop of Lemon Thyme and Wooly Thyme, but the Dwarf Basil isn’t doing quite as well. (actually I think the neighbor’s cat ate some of it…)

Just a lovely late spring day on the AV

Looks good Mik.

I particularly see the advantage of the covered bridge over the water. Saves a watery grave. lol

Very nice Mik.

Is that The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms walking next to the pond?

These people that get to be home to run trains! Yesterday I was at the club layout. Hopefully trains get to run today!
Run some trains for me!

I think it’s the one from “Lake Placid”… My 9YO thought we needed a 50c flea market rubber alligator to guard the goldfish.

Did it work? Our coyotes would eat it unless we had a real one.

Looking good Mik. I still hope to be able to run trains again this summer, if my cut project is ever finished.

If anyone is in the area and has smaller equipment (We have R-2 minimum radius curves and a 2% ruling grade – about 4% on a curve coming back down), they are welcome to stop by. Just backchannel me for directions!

Today Kim’s Aristo 5400 has decided it doesn’t like 79 humid and bright sunshine… so I’ll have to swap it out for something else and hope it’s just a tripped thermal

Mik looked to be having such a good time and it was such a nice day, the RGS decided to fire up No 20 and turn her loose on a Westbound Extra.

After grabbing a caboose #20 hits the coal tower and tops off the tender.

Not too happy about having to work on a holiday weekend, the engineer steers his train out of Delores and heads on up the track to Hesperus.

On arrival in Hesperus he drops the conductor off at the depot for any further instructions and gets ready for the days chores.

D&RGW #3504 and 3506 go to Chandlers, so the train is broken down and 3504 is backed onto the siding.

Next up is 3506.

D&SNG #3633 gets set out beside the loading dock at Bergs Woodworking.

Mancos Freight is D&RGW #3528’s destination so that’s where it’s spotted.

F&CC #833 is finally dropped off at the LCL track at Hesperus depot and the engineer and conductor head on over to the saloon to celebrate what’s left of the Memorial Day weekend.

Had a few minor issues with a couple of switches, which was to be expected, but all in all I was pleased with how it went, since it was the first time this year anything has run on the layout. So, head on over to your local saloon or just your friendly back yard and I hope ya’ll have a very nice Memorial Day…

Great pictures guys. I wish I was able to run trains. This weekend starts the busy time at work for me.

Today’s pix…

$5 worth of Cypress mulch and a couple $1 clearance mini roses and it looks a lot less like a moonscape…

Ralph and Shawn visited in spirit anyway

I had a bit of trouble today with the sun tripping the thermal overload on the transformer and a few expansion troubles (not quite sun kinks)… VERY annoying.

Things are lookin good in PA.
I decided to work on the RR yesterday.
Shoulda run trains instead
Ralph

Layout is looking great. I just got done food shopping, next is mow the lawn, go for a hike and hopefully run some trains.
