’ British soldier dies in Iraq attack
A UK soldier has died following an attack in central Basra in southern Iraq, the Ministry of Defence has said. The soldier sustained wounds in the Al Tuwaysa district of Basra, during an attack on a convoy he was travelling in.
A civilian driver was also killed after a fuel tanker was set on fire.
Not all of the dead soldier’s family members have been made aware of his death and further details about him are not being released at the moment.
He was injured during an attack on a re-supply convoy he was travelling in to a multi-national force base, the MoD said.
The soldier was evacuated to Basra Palace for treatment, but later died of his wounds.
The driver who was killed was not of British nationality, the MoD said.’
The young soldier had been in Iraq for four days.
And now he’s coming home.
We’ll all go to meet him as his friends take him off the plane.
