All through January Cris was very weak and tired, and sleeping about 18 hours a day. But recently she’s been feeling quite a bit better. She’s not sleeping as much and has more energy. The past several nights she hasn’t even needed help getting to the bathroom. I don’t know how long this will last but for now we’re holding off on the hospice and in-home care.

Ever since February Cris has been doing pretty well. Her kidney function has held steady at 8%. However, all through September she has needed more and more help, and has also had some cognitive impairment.

We recently transitioned her from palliative care to hospice. We also hired Visiting Angels to provide some in-home care. Due to staff shortage they currently can provide someone only three nights a week, from 7am to 7pm, but at least that gives me a chance to catch up on my sleep. The caregiver they gave us is really great and Cris loves her.

Cris has also become more unsteady recently and had two bad falls last week. The worst was Friday night when she fell in the bathroom and tore a huge gash in the skin of her left arm. So now any time she’s not in bed, she has to have someone at her side holding onto her. Visiting Angels is going to try to get us someone to help out some during the day as soon as possible.

Our thoughts are with you both, Ray.
