Large Scale Central

May 2019 MRC large scale representation!

So apparently, a photo of my modeling made it into the May 2019 Model Railroad Craftsman. Photo was taken at the Portland RPM this Feb. I will have to buy myself a copy and see what it is. Kind of neat to hear about that. Never expected that when I went to the RPM, kind of gives me motivation to keep working on projects.

Congratulations!

Nice to know we are among celebrities (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)Seeing your work, I’m not surprised in the least. Congratulations, Craig.

Very cool! And it’s one of the first times I’ve ever heard of 1:29 scale as “massive”!

Congrats… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

I haven’t seen the photo yet, but I’m guessing it’s of my Snow Dozer. Now if I can just convince myself to finish the dang thing that would be great. I got distracted drawing up a CAD version for eventual etching.

Still a work in progress on both models, but taking shape slowly.

I guess my bribe to Harry Wong paid off. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Way to go!

Well, when your 3 or 4 models take up a whole table fun verses a couple dozen or so models, yep it does seem massive. Every year I go the HO guys are impressed with the large scale stuff. I haven’t convinced any yet to switch scales, but I’m slowly trying to work them over. I am slightly jealous because they get tables and tables of scratch building and kitbashing parts.

This is the best shot I could find of my stuff overall on a table. 3 Boxcars, a Snow Dozer, partial building, and a in progress Pettibone.

Compare that to this shot of a table with HO stuff.

Thanks guys for the nice words and congrats. I feel even better that large scale made it into a predominately HO scale magazine. I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled to see if anything comes out of that. It would certainly be nice to see some HO modelers ‘infect’ large scale. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Congrats Craig!!!

Very cool…Congratulations !!!

The RPM’s are really showing their input. There is one in the St. Louis area every August and its a great event. Model railroading in any scale is fun.

The St Louis RPM is huge. It’s one of the big 3 RPM’s every year. I think last year they had something around 3000 models. I want to go every year, but its just not affordable at this point in time. One of these days. And then the other problem becomes, what do I bring that you can carry on an airplane?

Very glad to see this. I went to the Bay Area RPM last year and no large scale to be found. Unfortunately, I’ll likely be out of town this year or I would have planned to bring something.

Devon and I sat with Craig at the Monroe, WA, RPM, a couple of years ago, and I’m pretty sure that Craig’s spreader was the only scratch built project there. All, and I do mean all, of the h0 stuff was just weathered shake the box, or already built stuff. I didnt see any 0 scale, or any of the N or Z scale stuff. Disappointing.

Nice that Craig is recognized in RMC for his work.

At that time, Devon and you showed up, I don’t think I had that much done. The Monroe show died a slow death, with maybe 20 to 30 people. The Portland RPM was much better attended and I think it will continue to grow.

I agree with Steve that a lot of HO stuff is shake the box stuff that has been weathered. Not much scratch building in any scale.
