Large Scale Central

Maryland & Pennsylvania #28 Build

I know you may be a little tired of questions so I thought I would post my limited progress.

I am learning as I go and you have helped.

Beginning the scary task of disassembly.

Cut the existing window frames

Tape to temporarily hold the new center post.

Cet the generator stand off. It needs to go back along with the cab about 2.5 inches.

Putty the holes and let dry till tomorrow.

I’m am not just asking I am doing!

Thanks and I hope these basic steps aren’t too boring.

Cool…We love pictures Jeff!

I can’t help you with your project but I know a few that can and pictures say 1,000 words!

Thanks Rooster.

Rooster, can you see the pictures?

Well…I did Mark about an hour ago???

Huuummm!

I still see them. Hmmmmmmmm

Looks like you moved the pics after posting to your "no.28 " folder…

Thanks Jon I just caught that. Trying to clean up my Freight Shed.

Sorry Mark.

Can you see them now? I modified the URL

Yup - working now. I’ll delete my quote now.

Thanks again Jon. Still learning…

Thanks Jeff…Looking good!

I am very interested in the Ma & Pa ever since I saw a bunch of old box cars pass behind my work. Odd seeing them as the tracks are exclusive to the BNSF. I’d see them go by about twice a month, all black with that distinctive “hex-sign” logo. Been thinking about modeling a few.

Welcome to the group!

Nice start Jeff. If you have a pic of Ma& Pa #28 it would help

Thanks Mark. If you ever get a shot of them send it my way please!

Dave I have several. My new avatar is one of them. I have a shot from all front and locomotive sides. I am searching for one of the tender.

Sorry Jeff I meant post one up for us to see what you are going for

This is one form the M&P Historical Site.

I am also using a drawing of #28 by J.H Geissel on page 100 from “The Ma & PA” by George Hilton.

There are more in the book also.

I am trying to track down the newer The Ma & Pa Remembered: A History of the Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad by Henry Peden Jr. at an affordable price. The Historical Society wants $75 for it, a little rich for me.

Jeff,

There are two pages on M&P #28 in the MR Cyclopedia [don’t know if it is still available.] A couple of photos and a very detailed drawing. Page 112-113. I could scan them if you can’t find the book - but it is worth it for the intro which shows you why all the piping and where it goes! It also has other Ma & Pa loco drawings.

There’s a thread or two on MLS about making a standard gauge 4-6-0 from a Big Hauler. It might give you some ideas.

I am currently looking to buy that on eBay. One goes off next week.

Thanks Pete.

I have yet another question. Imagine that.

I am looking the pilot and I see it is about 3/4" too long.

How do you shrink it? Cut a little off both ends?

And then reattach the pieces so they are sturdy?

Thanks for your patience.

It has been so long I don’t really remember exactly how I did it on mine but I think I did all the material removal from the rear portion (http://www.raccooncrkrwy.com/pilotB-A.jpg)
