Large Scale Central

Marty's Open House was GREAT!

Had a great time at Marty’s open house. People came from over 14 states and Canada. As far east as Maryland and west as Arizona. Well over 125 were there on Saturday, 80 at the banquet. NO motel rooms in the whole town were available, have to reserve months in advance! I posted a video in the live steam forum. Here are some stills My Mikado on Sunday morning.

Saturday morning Ron Senek and I went down to Richard Snyder’s new layout, 20 minutes south. He has a 250’ loop, about half of it elevated. Ron’s wife Holly came along to take her usual good pictures, Ron Teten came to help me. One control was used for both locomotives. Nice cool damp morning for great plumes!

For the first time I took my old streamliner to Marty’s. I made the cars about 15 years ago, no one made streamliner cars then. The FA unit now sports a E8 nose, came off Marty’s A that he cut up to make a B unit.

Had a GREAT time!

Tk’s for the photos Jerry… Look like you had a great time… Looking good…

Great photos, Jerry. I liked the video, too. Thanks for posting.

Great photos and his layout looks great. Thanks for the pictures.

A few more pictures from Marty’s. Here is Jan’s KVRwy #1 leaving “Table Creek”.

It is approaching the Terminal Area and looks for clearance.

The congestion can sometimes be daunting.

These two shots show a little of the immenseness of the railroad.

But that is only looking North.

Looking south, you can see Jan’s train waiting for Rex to couple his ABBA unit onto 23 passenger cars.

Looking from a little further back and another person in the picture.

And then showing the full area, with Henson’s grandson Brandon in the picture. Last time we saw him he was a little guy running Grandpa’s train and saying “Mr. Rick can I go through your yard” in a fine Arkansas accent. He now runs his own trains with the rest of us.

Here is that passenger train getting underway.

And then there are Marty’s trestles and bridges.

Yeah. It is a big, well maintained, great layout and a lot of fun.

There are lots of pictures on the other site. Check them out if you wish.

Gives a good overall view of part of the layout, there’s more folks!

Jerry,

Every year I try to catch the flavor of the whole thing. It isn’t easy. There is so much, like you said - “overall view of part of the layout, there’s more folks!”

Ric & Jerry,
Thanks for posting the pictures.
Marty has a beautiful GRR.
Mighty fine of him to let everyone come visit.
Ralph

Marty is a Fine Guy, I had the chance to get to know him a few years back at the SELSTS in Perry…Ralph keep laying that AL and you can host us!
