Marklin G1 passenger cars

Well, I collected a set of five Marklin passenger cars today - three 2nd class, one 1st class/restaurant, and one 2nd class/baggage/combine. They will look pretty good behind my 01 next time we go steaming. The colour is the ocean blue and ivory of Epoch IV of Deutsche Bundesbahn, mid 60’s to mid 80’s. The models are scale length for G1, that is to say, about 30 inches overall, and have full LED interior ceiling lighting and furniture, and look pretty good. They also have a nifty close-coupling device, too, that means that on thestraight they are closely snuggled up, a la real thing, but on bends they work on eccentric couplings, and compensate for the wiggling around.

As I said, they’ll look pretty good, but of course, NOT on my teeny track. I’ll have to wait until the next time I’m invited to a REAL G1 track to run it. The real thing ran trains of up to sixteen cars…

You mean that you don’t want you locomotive chasing your observation platform?  :stuck_out_tongue:

Do we get to look at any pictures?

Steve,

No obs on that train.

Longest TEE I’ve been on, powered by a 103 on the German portion, was the 15 coaches “Rheingold”.

Those were the days when, while on business in Europe, one had a choice: 1st class rail or economy air. A real no-brainer for me, I would only fly if I really had to.

Oh dear. Didn't anyone warn Steve that the transporter is scrambled?

Steve - I’ll leave it to your imagination what a fourxDash-9 lash-up and twenty cars looks like on a 75 foot-long egg-shaped track. Tail-chasing is something I’m well used to here in good old UK.

My Br01 won’t even go around my bends…[gloon]

Best wishes

So, Terry;

After hearing of all your purchases over the last few years, and the ownership of "REALLY BIG" large scale trains. I ask ; as I usually do about this time of year; "When is the final decision to move to Canada, going to be made", or is it not to hapen, due to too much stuff to move ?

If you are still planning on moving here; it might be to your advantage to stop buying locomotives, and start aquiring the R/C gear, and batteries in ordr to equip your locomotives for operation over here.

With the space available around here; you can even look at point-to-point operation, and actually let your live steamers work to their potential.

Few people in the live steam fraturnity actually know what their LS locos can do, besides run in circles, on level track. It surprises them to find, that by actually operating them, on a “Less than level pike”; they can fire and run them much closer to real life, prototype locos, and enjoy them much more.
As far as your electric stuff; you will enjoy that much more when you operate it too.
Another thought, is to look at aquiring Kadee couplers, for a lot of your NA stuff…it is becoming the “De-facto” standard around here. You should have them on your steamers and electrics; not forgetting the pilots of the steamers.

In any case......it's been a long time since your last visit.....!!!!

Terry,

Sadly, I am well acquainted with that picture. It never ceases to amaze me what my mind can ignore, seeing only what it wants to see, and the imagination filling in the missing parts. I think the consist you describe would be awesome.

Steve

Steve, since Terry doesn’t want to post a picture of his car, I’ll show you a pic of mine.

Actually Terry sent me the pic to post. This is his absolutely beautiful car. He assures me that he’s able to run it on a respectable sized layout that will do it justice. Now, if he’ll just get off the pot and buy a few more of these cars and take some pix of them behind that new steamer of his…

Yo Warren, Old Floon - like I said in my first post, I have five of these rather nice items. Sadly, like my multiple lash-ups, if I put them all on my little track they would -

a. look ridiculous.

b. nigh on meet up head-to-tail. Well, you know what I mean.

However, I promise, if the weather is good to go this weekend, that I’ll take a publicity shot for ya of the things behind both the new pacifics - the Aster 01 and the Marklin S3/6.

Should be good for a laff if nuffink else.

And for my dear old pal Fred - we will be over later on this year for a few weeks - I am working in Japan for the month of July and again for most of December, but will be spending Christmas in Victoria BC and New Year at Cannon beach OR. Mrs tac and the family ig are really looking forward to seeing you again!

Best to all there from us here

tac and the family ig

PS - last year I put out all my Aristocraft [13] and my couple of USA Trains and the two White Pass Alcos from LGB on the track and took a ‘publicity shot’. There was enough space between front and tail to put half a dozen freight cars.

Not sure how many Northern Pacific fans we have here, but would anybody be interested to see my custom-painted Aristocraft SD45 in the old black and yellow canoe scheme?

I would like to see it. That was an awesome paint scheme.

OK - I’m in court all day tomorrow, so I’ll post it to my good helper, Warren, just as soon as I gets back to the mud hut…
