Large Scale Central

Mandatory internet censorship

Australia will make censorship mandatory for all according to this article. I can understand the child

pornography issue but why are they censoring sites about euthanasia and anorexia?

As the Courier-Mail article points out, regulating content on BitTorrent and Lime Wire will be, at best, problematic.

From a parental viewpoint, there is no substitute for vigilance where the Internet is concerned. People who think they, or the government, can turn on a filter that guarantees their child will be safe from porn and predators need a wake-up call.

What worries me most about filtering is that people will think it actually works.

Bit like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted.

This sort of censorship should be a parental responsibility.

Careful, you’ll get “large scale trains” censored.

Parents, and responsibility, are two words that are seldom seen in the same sentence these days.

Who, my son/daughter…? Oh she/he wouldn’t do that…where was she/he/it, last night after midnight…“How in hell should I know; do you think I’m going to chase around watching him/her/it…I haven’t got time for that…besides what right have you to intrude into our privacy…?”

Not all families are like that, thank goodness, but enough are…there is a good question to ask…“Why do some people bother to have children, if they are not willing to accept the responsibility that goes with them…there are ways to prevent child birth, even if some religions (Part of the problem ?) don’t approve”
In the end; the children suffer from mistakes made by the parents.

I laugh at the term “Child Poverty”…egads; I was brought up to believe that a child was financed by his/her/it’s parents…who may be stressed with poverty, but then if they can’t afford the cost or responsibility of having a child; then why bother…

Of course, I’m sure that many will find fault with this way of thinking; but then they might take the time to look out at the real world, and see how it really works out there…Political Correctness rules supreme…

Have a good day....

Seams to me the more you make access to something harder, the harder people will try to get around those restrictions.

They have already done that here in the good old USA. AT&T in an overzealous attempt to help stamp out child pornography has deleted the entire ALT hierarchy from all their Usenet servers. That means I can no longer browse alt.binaries.pictures.rail for the hundreds of great rail photos posted there every day without subscribing to a pay usenet service.

Way to go AT&T

Welcome to the beginnings of tyranny. Big Brother is watching.

Soviet Commissar Lunacharsky, re Stalin's attempt to stamp out religion between the wars: "Religion is like a nail - the harder you hit it, the deeper it goes."

I completely agree with your assessment, Vic. Then again, if the real goal of the exercise is to foster creativity . . . .
