A couple exaggerations but most are spot on.

Ralph,

Where are the exaggerations?

Sad situation.

I’d say these two were a bit of a stretch. But the rest are pretty much right on.

and where does it end???

Ralph you’re probably right the FBI probably shot Johhny dead, instead of charging him with domestic terrorism. That is, unless Johnny was a minority. And Pedro has his doctorate because of an affirmative action program and is now teaching what is wrong with the USA.

Hard to say. Much of this was imposed by both the right and left. So who can you look to for a fix? Ralph

Except for the quail hunting , Ritalin and Spanish part, that pretty much sums up my school experiences in 1957…

Like the TV reporter who questioned the TSA and is now on the “watch list”?

Aw, C’mon! Funny, but more “truthiness” then “true”.

1968 – Teacher teaching science is having trouble cutting something. Borrows Tommy’s pocket knife 'cause he knows it’s always sharp.

Not an exaggeration.

1966 – Steve takes Springfield Model 03 to Physics class because he has marksmanship training immediately after in the basement of the gym. No one even raises an eyebrow.

True story – I did it every Wednesday for a semester.

In 1975, I was VP of the Rifle club that shot targets in the school basement. We never had a problem storing our rifles in our hall lockers, just had to have the bolt removed. One of the Advisors was one of the schools Security Guard.

A year or two, a senior at one of our HS had been out at the paint ball range the night before and forgot to remove his rifle from his car’s trunk. He opened his trunk to get his books and an Admin saw it. He was expelled and arrested because of the city & School board’s Zero-tolerance rules with only 2 weeks left in school. He never got to graduate because of a paint ball rifle (w/o any CO2) that couldn’t have hurt anyone.

But then a kid that attacked a teacher only gets suspended for 3 days because the teacher “provoked” him.

Also, it’s sad situation in today’s world when you try to displine your kids and you end up getting investigated for child abuse because you took away their cellphone, gameboy or heaven forbid, their car.

IMHO

I graduated from high school in 1959. We had a 7 target small bore rifle range in the high school’s ROTC armory. It was used for small arms and marksmanship training for ROTC cadets and I both qualified and eventually was cadet range master for the range. We had a separate section of the attached arsenal for the 22s and ammunition that supported the range. A U.S. Army Master Sergeant, along with the Lt. Colonel in charge of the detachment had the keys and at least two regular Army personnel were always present when live shooting was taking place. This all on a San Diego City Public High School campus.

My brother was three years younger and really took to small bore rifle shooting. He qualified “Expert” and shot in non-ROTC competitions with some national organizations (names forgotten). He too was an ROTC cadet, and was also allowed to use the armory’s range for practicing his hobby shooting. Under the guidance of one of the Army instructors, he was allowed to bring his own special target shooting 22 caliber rifle and to keep a supply of his target ammunition at the range / arsenal. I often dropped him off at the front door of the high school with his books in one hand and his rifle case (with the rifle inside) slung over his shoulder. I don’t believe he was even required to remove the bolt. He would keep the rifle in his locker while going to a day of classes, then go to the range to shoot after school. Both the school authorities and the ROTC personnel encouraged this and no one blinked an eye.

Just try that today!!!

On second thought, don’t try it unless you want a trip to the local jail, an interrogation by the FBI and a ban from public schools.

Happy RRing,

Jerry

Used to get your butt busted at home or school if you didn’t behave.
Discipline and responsibility were taught at home and school.
We have too many today that are taught neither.
Not everybody…but too many.
