making fenders??

In the midst of the build challenge and I have been kicking around putting fenders on my racer. The trouble is how to do it. I thought about cutting a can in half and tried different ones but it isn’t right.
I tried using a piece of PVC pipe but that isn’t right either. I thought about cutting a piece that would be close to the profile I want then putting some heat to the PVC so I can bend it the rest of the way but would that work?
I might try trimming and bending a piece of tin next.

Any ideas ?

Got a heat gun?

Eric just showed us pvc reshaped and worked then shaped again with heat…

I’d make a jig so both sides match, should work with styrene too.

John

Bend a piece of brass strip around a pipe or dowel or something the size you need.

two pieces of wire coat hanger or similar stiff wire bent to the correct shape and then a piece of plastic say from a 2 liter pop bottle CA glued to the two pieces of wire? Then attach that to the bottom of the flat car over the wheels?

For the contest? Use cardboard… corrugated and stained with garbage… oh you want to win? Never mind.

Thanks guys

I thought I would give the PVC piece a try over a can “jig” and then I found out my heat gun isn’t working UGH … It’s a Wagner that I paid a lot of money for and it just keeps cycling but won’t stay on?

Maybe I can try bending a piece of styrene with a hair dryer?

Todd,

I used layers of styrene for my loco roof bent to the correct shape as you glue each layer over the other it holds the curved shape. of course it has to be thin styrene. I also did this for leaf springs.
