Making 55 Gallon Steel Drums in 1/20.3

Nice car, and something ya don’t see everyday.

Gee, now I might have to dig out my box of wood drums. I was purchasing them here and there when I saw them, a few at a time. I have only used a few to make passenger car stoves out of. But that sure is a neat idea you gots there Boomer.

Rooster finishes his cigarette flicks it into the gondola and walks away never looking back!

Great job Boomer!

Boomer, that whole car turned out great. I really like the barrel work, but can you enlighten me on your process of getting the star decal fit so well on the lids ? Did you set them in place and then trim around the bung and vent or did you mark and punch holes in the lid star before placement ?

Great work Boomer. The car and the barrels came out perfect.

Superb model and load Boomer. it certainly is a credit. It gives the rest of us, mere mortals, a nice idea.

Many of us, I believe, are always looking for new additional loads for our railroads. After all the same loads, except maybe coal or other minerals which have dedicated cars anyway, are not always seen on a flat or in a gondola.

Southern fried…

Shocking!

Those are some purdy barrels!!

Boomer , I think you did a brilliant job and you have earned a lot of bragging points ; it’s the sort of thing to take to shows , the satisfaction of getting positive comments would hopefully encourage you to do more good works . I expect you’ll make more models anyway , you obviously enjoy it because it shows in the finished product .

I must confess that had I been trying to do a load of barrels , I would have cheated by covering the load with a tarpaulin . Nowhere near as satisfying as what you’ve achieved but maybe a little pointer to they who haven’t the talent and patience to have a go .

With regard to a certain roosting animal making heavy with the jelly , would you like my help in getting him to Kentucky Fried Chicken ? If they’d take him .
