Large Scale Central

Maker's Mark distillery layout

I have been sporadically working on a Gn15 mini layout this winter. It started with an industrial theme and to be about 18 x 32 inches -

After some discussion about egg nog and bourbon over on the Gn15 site, a distillery themed layout was suggested. After a bit of online research I found my favorite bourbon, Maker’s Mark is on the registry of historic places and the complex has a very distinctive look -

with shutters that have the outline of a Maker’s Mark bottle cut into them -

Started laying track -

and upscaling an On30 B-mann Davenport -

Setting the track in the “concrete” floor and finalizing the building layout-

Recent progress - Redid the plan -

The two corner buildings are mostly done -

Ahhh, Maker’s Mark, the nectar of the gods.

Great corn squeezin’s. That is a great start, Brian. I’ll be watching this one.

That distillery is very cool!
That’s my accountant’s favorite beverage…I don’t touch the stuff personally.
Nice choice for a build.

Great start to your layout, and what a cool prototype. I used to be a Bourbon drinker, but got tired of it. I never tasted Maker’s Mark. I think Wild Turkey was probably as close to the top shelf as I ever got. Jack Daniels was my regular. Probably why I gave it up, eh?

Brian,

That is a wonderful idea and looks like a great start. Enjoy the build, please keep us up to date.

Brian,
Looks cool.
But please explain Gn15 for those like me who haven’t a clue.

1:22.5 scale on H0 (16.5mm) gauge track.

Cool mini layout, and an interesting prototype!

Tony has got it. G scale on HO gauge track. The "n15" is for 15 inch narrow gauge. !5 inch ng was used for small industrial and estate railways. More info here - http://gn15.info/

Looks good. Are you going to have it ready for York?

No way. Maybe for the Fall show. Not sure if I'll be able to make the Spring show due to tight finances. [Rant on] Would be helpful if the State of Maryland and the State Highway Administration would honor the contract they signed back in July and pay me the $40K they owe me! [Rant off]

That certainly deserves a major RANT!

It looks like you’re planning on doing some interior detailing in the buildings. What are you going to put in there?

I guess I could help by donating some EMPTY bottles?

Good progress Brian. I’ve been tinkering with Gn15 (1:24 on HO track). Now I’m thinking maybe 1:35 on HO track because of the availability of vehicles and figures in particular in 1:35. I also picked up a couple of Fleischmann Magic Train On30 cars (gons). They’re 4 wheel cars that work out to 4’W x 12’L and look pretty cool as 1:24 stock.
Can’t wait to see more of this layout.

Yes, I will be adding interior details as I go along. It could be one of those never ending projects (but you know what that’s like  ). Fermentation and distillation tanks and aging barrels of bourbon will all be on the list.

We prefer donations of full bottles for this project! :stuck_out_tongue:

What does 1:35 on HO track work out to? Is that around two foot ng? I know there is a lot of military stuff in 1:35. Is that the direction you are heading?

Looks like an interesting project and something that takes up little space. Keep the pics coming. Later RJD

Looking forward to the progress Brian. You working on an indoor layout, one mini scene at a time?

Sorry Dave, this will be my entire indoor layout! Made a bit of progress watching the game this afternoon finishing up building #3 -

That should be the last of the buildings with windows so I’ll have to start tackling the shutters! -Brian

Micro layouts are awsome. You have a great start and I like the theme. It gives you something to play with when you aresnowed in lol. I started an on30 last summer. The design I did is very similar to yours. Its going to be a logging theme basicaly a sawmill and a work shop. You got me thinking now. Since the HO track is down I could probably turn it into a 1:22-24 scale. on the HO.

Nice work Brian.
Where are the gutters?
