make your own dc controller

Many may think tis question should be listed in different place how it is a troubling item. i have searched and search i can’t anythin on how to make a dc controler why is it

Take a look at the LM 350 spec for a 3 amp controller or the LM338 for 5 amp. And the specs show how to use these in parallel to get more amps. Output needs to go to a DPDT center off switch for reversing direction.

The National Semi spec has a diagram for 1.2 volts to 25 volts output.

This is not perfect as you can not get 0 volts unless you use a -2 volt supply for the ground reference but it will work.

Maybe the reason there isnt much info on making them is because the electronics hobby has kinda fadded over the years. After all when was that last time anyone heard of Heathkits?

Also, better units can be purchsed easier, and maybe even cheaper, then it would be to build your own.

Good time to get clearance prices from Radio Shack tho’.

Get a used Aristo controller, it will make PWM which will make your trains start from lower speeds and will often run your lights brighter at lower speeds.

Buying the components and putting in a case… it will be hard to save money.
