Next up are the Chinese who just landed a “nice little” contract and will build the facility in Springfield, MA.

They are based out of Philly

The MBTA is getting a bunch of Rotem coaches. I like them, they’re all double-height, and some of them are cab cars for the front of the trains. Operationally, though, it seems they have had their share of problems. This thread has about 125 pages of the whole process, up to current day.
The Nov 2014 TRAINS has a write up (page 50) describing the “real world” routine H-R applies to the out-shopped cars.

Hyundai Rotem ensures new cars work properly in a real-world environment

Sean,
If you link to a picture on the TRAINS page it would be very nice if you set the link to the current issue http://trn.trains.com/issues/2014/november-2014 . That way everyone can get right to “the meat” including the sample videos.

Think that’s an issue, have you been following the saga of the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge?

You do realize that there is a law requiring all US trains to be made in the USA? So they have no choice if they want to sell trains here.
And that FRA has different standards from the rest of the world (beefier passenger coach designs, e.g.) so the high-speed trains used elsewhere can’t be used here. Hence the Amtrak Acelas cost twice as much as they needed to.

Yes, I’m somewhat familiar with those stipulations. Every time I read another column/report on the subject I go “really!?!”
