Mad Max style themed layout?

i am in a “in the past everything was better” phase.

i’ve got the impression, that in the first three decades of my life everything got better AND cheaper.

but if i look at the last three decades, it seems, that things, that have to be replaced nearly always are of worse quality, than their predecessors.

and, yes, i include electronics. while they are an exception by getting more and more sophisticated, their durability goes down the drain too.

were public works like roads or public buildings always so neglected as they are now, and we just didn’t notice?

at least, where it concerns toys, it is clear as wodka, that quality is in danger of extinction!

(many threads in this forum prove that point!)

  • rant written and edited to about a quarter of original length -

so this conception of a decaying civilisation made me think what to do with my layout.

keep it themed for the middle to late 1800s - when civilisation was storming ahed at full throttle?

take the same timeframe, but in a somewhat fictional setting with liberties to include “not fitting” components?

try to make an idealized setting of my own youth time? (as many do, with everything neat and nice)

or create a Mad Max style post-civ setting, where everything goes?

from chainmail to machine gun, from human powered litter to racecar, from horsetram to Doc Brown’s “back to the future” loco? (throwing in a stargate, a tardis and what ever else comes to mind…)

what do you all think?

I don’t know about anybody else, but I’d pay money to see a Mad Max theme!

I’d say wait until the medication wears off, and if you still feel the same way, go for it (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

This train of thought has consumed a few evenings in chat in the recent months. Go for it…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Jim, takeing in count the traveling costs, i would give free entrance.

Vic, which shall i stop taking? the blue or the red ones?

Hollywood, if i only think about the advantage, that i could use each and any junk, that has accumulated, i really should.

Korm, As a fan of “steampunk” and “dieselpunk” I’ve often thought of doing this myself. Years ago I had started to make an Mad Max inspired engine by mating a Peterbuilt cabover to a BL2 long hood in HO scale. I say Go for it!

I think “you” put more on my plate then what I can chew . However I’m still in thought mode and have ton’s of projects. If this was posted on social media currently it would be totally buried by now and totally of topic.

Geee…ya’ know I saw it somewhere

You are kind of sort of describing the current incarnation of my layout. I envision the fictional ‘prototype’ as being literally on another world, maybe on some lost colony planet thousands of years from now, or maybe in some sort of parallel dimension. (ever notice how many of the settlements in SF settings like Star Trek’s seem to be populated by ‘Space Amish?’ Makes it easier to account for the variety of ‘little people’ I’ve collected, anyhow. Also sort of ties in with other projects of mine.

I’d thought for a while now that Korm’s collection was growing much too diverse for the stated era of his layout.

So you are saying the man has a legit modeling thought?

This’ll be fun to watch. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Take a look at my not so great pics of ‘Cliffport Platform.’

http://www.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/27665/cliffport-platform

Superheroes. Aliens. Monsters. A witch. Other strange critters. All mingled together with normal folks. Waldo’s in there too. (I left out the astronauts and the zombies, though in keeping with the ‘Mad Max’ theme I did recently acquire the ‘Angry Mob’ playset (their attire seems reasonably close to Korm’s era.) That kind of diversity pretty much requires another planet.

Oh, before I forget, your ticket has you seated between the witch and one of the aliens. It’s possible you might be able to talk Lex Luther out his seat…

Odds of the train reaching its destination?

a pro, to go more modern:

wouldn’t it be a shame to hide all these Barbie legs under long skirts?

Thinker,

hey! where do you get Amish figures?

for that one i would have to dinamite all my tunnels, but it has a certain post-civilisational charme, hasn’t it?

Lemax. Cheap old timey figures. Men in old style suits or country attire, women in long skirts. Usually Christmas or Halloween themed. The larger ones are probably … 1/25ish. The smaller ones are pretty much ‘O’ scale, and it be hard to determine which is which from EBAY pics.

The coffee vendor in the Cliffport pics is from Lemax as are a couple of his customers.

I suggest keeping the winged girls ‘as is.’ A colony of oversized pixies could explain so much…

Hmmmm… perhaps I should send Korm a care package…

A workmate is doing a Lord of the Rings themed railway complete with Orcs, Wizards & Hobbits, he is using medieval figures (knights, castles etc).

It is multi level with a lower level showing Isengard and the orc factory.

Any pictures yet? Sounds weirdly cool.

I expect building log photos

Bump and Bump again. Gotta work on “thanks” next because stats seem to be very important too a few thinking they can be many. Feed a man a fish and he will ask for more. Teach a man how to fish and he may feed many with useless posts.
