Märklin setzt Stabilisierungskurs fort – Ãœbernahme von LGB perfekt

Göppingen, 26. Juli 2007 – Die Branche schrumpft weiter, doch Märklin setzt die Stabilisierung fort: Entgegen dem Trend konnte der Modellbahnhersteller Märklin im ersten Halbjahr 2007 zum Ende Juni seine Betriebsleistung (Umsatz, sonstige Erlöse und Bestandsveränderungen) auf 55,1 Mio. € ausbauen (vergleichbare Vorjahresperiode: 54,8 Mio. €). Besser als im Vorjahr lag auch der
Auftragsbestand, der um 16% auf 58,6 Mio. € zulegte (Vorjahreszeitraum: 50,6 Mio. €).
„Damit haben wir unser Geschäft weiter stabilisiert und ausgebaut“, sagte Axel Dietz, Vorsitzender der Geschäftsführung von Märklin: „Wichtigster Erfolgsmaßstab dafür ist Umsatz und Auftragsbestand. Hier haben wir in Summe im ersten Halbjahr mit 101,7 Mio. € ein Plus von 2% gegenüber dem Vorjahr erwirtschaftet. Das bestätigt uns auf dem eingeschlagenen Weg zur Gesundung des Unternehmens.“
Der Umsatz des Unternehmens, der zum Halbjahr 43,1 Mio. € erreichte, lag um Sondereinflüsse bereinigt in etwa auf dem Niveau des Vorjahres,
ist aber aufgrund von Verlagerungseffekten in der Produktion und neuen Konditionen für den Handel in der Berichtsperiode nur beschränkt vergleichbar.Wesentliche Schritte des Zukunftsprogramms erfolgreich abgeschlossen
Damit befindet sich Märklin gut ein Jahr nach der Übernahme des Unternehmens voll auf Kurs. Zur Jahresmitte hat Märklin auch die im Januar vorgelegten Weichenstellungen abgeschlossen, mit denen das Unternehmen Kernkompetenzen stärkt, einen modernen Produktionsverbund schafft und sich in wettbewerbsfähige Kostenstrukturen gibt. Die Verhandlungen mit den Sozialpartnern wurden jetzt einvernehmlich beendet. Es wurde vereinbart, die Produktion am Stammsitz Göppingen und im Werk Györ/Ungarn zu konzentrieren. Für die Beschäftigten
an den Standorten Sonneberg und Nürnberg wurden Beschäftigungs- und Qualifizierungsgesellschaften eingerichtet.Stammsitz Göppingen: Kompetenzzentrum für Produktentwicklung, Konstruktion und Herstellung hochwertiger Modelle
Eine der Kernmaßnahmen, mit denen Märklin zukunftssicher gestaltet wird, ist die Festigung des Standorts Göppingen als Kompetenzzentrum für Produktmanagement, Entwicklung und Konstruktion des gesamten Sortiments von Märklin. Hochwertige Produktlinien von Märklin werden ausschließlich am Stammsitz in Göppingen gefertigt. Damit wird sichergestellt, dass die traditionellen Stärken der Belegschaft – hohe Qualität und gewissenhafte Detailtreue – als eine der wichtigsten Erfolgskriterien von Märklin gesichert und ausgebaut werden.

Zur Jahresmitte hat Märklin sein Geschäftsportfolio erweitert: Mit der Akquisition des Nürnberger Gartenbahnherstellers LGB schafft sich das Unternehmen ein weiteres Standbein in einem interessanten Wachstumsbereich. Die Gläubiger der insolventen Ernst Paul Lehmann Patentwerke oHG, Inhaber der Marke LGB und traditionsreicher Hersteller von Gartenbahnen, haben in der heutigen Gläubigerversammlung
dem Verkauf wesentlicher Aktiva an Märklin zugestimmt. „Damit können wir die Tradition dieser einzigartigen Großbahnen fortsetzen und
sind zuversichtlich, den Markt schon in wenigen Monaten wieder mit Modellen und Zubehör beliefern zu können“, so Märklin-Geschäftsführer Axel Dietz. „Mit der Ãœbernahme von LGB erschließen wir eine neue Kundengruppe und ergänzen das Produktprogramm um die einzige noch fehlende gängige Spurweite. Darüber hinaus weist das Geschäft mit Gartenbahnen eine gegenläufige Saisonalität auf und verschafft uns somit eine bessere Balance.“ Am Standort Nürnberg, wo LGB durch die seit vielen Monaten erfolglosen Verhandlungen mit anderen Interessenten seit längerem im Anschlusskonkurs ist, werden durch die Ãœbernahme ca. 20 hochqualifizierte Arbeitsplätze geschaffen. Göppingen, July 26, 2007 - The industry segement is still contracting, but Märklin continues to stabilize: Counter to the trend model railway producer Märklin increased its result for the first half year of 2007 (end of June) to 55.1 million Euro ( same period in 2006: 54.8 million). Orders are also better than in the previous year, an increase of 16% to 58.6 million Euro (2006: 50.6 million)
“With that we have further stabilized and expanded our business” seid Axel Dietz, CEO of Märklin. “The most important measure of that are turnover and orders. In that category we managed a 2% increase of 101.7 million compared with the prior year. Which confirms our chosen path to recovery.” The turnover of the company, which reached 43.1 million for the first half, was approximately the same as the prior year, when extra ordinary factors were accounted for; however due to production relocations and new terms for the distribution during the reporting period, the results can only be compared in a limited fashion.

With that Märklin is, one year after the takeover, right on course. By midyear Märklin concluded the measures presented in January with which the company reinforces core components, creates a modern production network and presents competitive cost structures. The negotiations with the employees have been amicably concluded. It was agreed to concentrate the production at headquarters in Göppingen and the subsidiary Györ/Hungary. The employees at Sonneberg and Nürnberg are helped through the transition by specially created companies that offer skills upgrading and job search assistance.

One of the core measures, with which Märklin gets a solid footing for the future, is the consolidation of location Göppingen as a competency centre for product management, development and engineering of the complete Märklin line. This assures that the traditional strengths of the employees - high quality and painstaking attention to detail - as one of the most important criteria for Märklin’s success will be secured and expanded.

At midyear Märklin expanded its business portfolio : with the acquisition of Nürnberg garden railway producer LGB, the company establishes a further main pillar in an interesting growth segment. The creditors of the insolvent Ernst Paul Lehmann Patentwerk oHG, owner of the LGB trademark and venerable producer of garden railways, have at today’s creditors’ meeting approved the sale of substantial assets to Märklin.
“With this we can continue the tradition of this unique large scale railway and we are confident that within few months we will bring models and accessories to market” says Märklin CEO Axel Dietz " With the takeover of LGB we tap into a new client group and add the one popular size to our product line which had, so far, been missing. In addition to that the garden railway business has a different season cycle that runs in the opposite direction and provides us with a better balance." In Nürnberg, where LGB after very protracted, unsuccessful negotiations which were drawn out over many months, is already in the second insolvency, the takeover will result in approximately 20 highly qualified job positions. No, I was never a Märklin fan. As a kid I had a “Made in Switzerland” trainset in approx. 1:100 scale called WESA.
Many of the other kids in the neighbourhood had Märklin. 
Oh and another kid - his father was the caretaker at the highschool - had a huge Lionel set up in the attic above the gym. That and forgetting what time it was got me into big trouble while I was still in Kindergarten, who cares about time if you get to run Lionel! :lol:
