M.T. Pockets new car

Having been able to work a deal out with a distant downsizing line M.T. now has in the car shop a slightly used dome car and coach. Being a man of some influence in these parts he has ordered his shop to revamp the dome into his personnal car. Modifications are currently under way on this project with the hopes of having it ready for the holiday season. The following are a few shots of the work in progress: Here some of the windows have been resized or removed

The opposite side window changes

Where the shop decided to modify the roof end

The new roof line

The new end wall being test fit in the carpantry shop prior to installation

A 3/4 view from the rear

Thats the progress as of today. The coach will be cleaned and serviced prior to being placed in daily service for the upcoming spring season

…grinning…

Looks like MT is going to be stylin

Oh. I thought you were talking about my car. Sophira is developing expensive problems faster than I can repair them. Not sure she’ll make 200,000 miles, though at 176,000, she’s my longest lived car. She had 125,000 when I bought her.

Quite a project! How do you plan to match the corrugations in the metal? I’ve considered making another car for my Pioneer Zephyer, but am stumped on that.

So far I’ve been lucky on that bit Jerry and haven’t needed to do too much matching. The little I have done is from scrap pieces of car sides. How large of an area do you need to do?I would think casting the side area would be the easiest way

Should be one nice looking business car. Will it retain the dome section? If so, with the fluted sides, it will sort of look like the private car Sierra Hotel

Matt, This build was started as a wildcard for something differant. Having not seen a dome in use as a private car I felt it to be a what if type build. A prototype for everything holds true again.
Really glad you started posting over here, as you seem to come up with a wealth of western area info, Amtrak and obscure prototypes. Along with your own unique builds.
Thanks for the pic and info link, Though not the same it does help with some details I want to use.

Dave

edit to ask if you have a pic of the other side?

Dome has been reconditioned and replaced after a prime coat.More to come as the shop gets it done

Coming along good Hollywood, will make a nice addition to the fleet.

Mr. Pockets will be riding in style while he sips his fine cognacs and smokes a big Greg cigar!

Looking good, Dave!

Will it have HEP cables?

Dave,

That’s looking great so far. A really unique car for an outdoor railway.

Don’t forget a crate on the rear deck to keep a rooster in.  :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve heard M.T. likes fried chichen when he’s travelling in his private car.

The Rooster rides in the dome!

Yea, in a KFC bucket.................;)

Hollywood look good so far. Just keep an eye on that rooster.

Hollywood, the car is progressing well… nice build…

Personally, I’d just glue the Roosters feet to a turn table on the roof, so when your stopped, you’ll know from which direction the wind is blowing…

About time for a little update

painting is finished except for some minor touchup on the stripes

detailing the dome called for a little extra viewblocking

also painting a coach and wanted to show the paint differences
