I don’t know, Vic.
Firestone and Manchester were THE routes south and east of of LA, when Retlaw decided to build, they started the “Santa Ana Freeway”.
I remember Brookhurst and Euclid when they were mounds of dirt, the “freeway” was dirt, portable stoplights built in 55-gallon drums in the middle of the “intersection”.
The move was then on, AFTER Retlaw started.
First time to Dizzyland, 55 or 56, drive down two lane roads with wake-up stripes at intersections (remember those? The single line did a whole bunch of wide “S” curves just before) looking down rows of orage trees to see the 76 Minuteman on Katella and Ball, was it? rotating and saluting, turn left…
4-lane roads in OC were unheard of.
Harbor Boulevard was “Spadra”, I remember when 91 finally got to State College, it was a cliff.
They ran the pavement up to where the overpass WOULD be…
In school, the big irrigation pipes were still sticking out of the playground.
Ah, the Mouse did it, all right.
Anaheim had NOTHING to offer until Retlaw showed up.
Hell, Santa Ana was “the city”.
At least back then we had the pride to call the freeways by where they went, not a “number”.
Arroyo Seco, right?
