Cold galvanizing paint works wonders. Just add weathering.

I think I have a can of that some place, and the search begins.

I’m way behind on this thread but I gotta say screw the awnings lets talk about the distinct roof crestings !!!

Nice work !

The crest work is something. The architecture of the old buildings are incredible, the brick work and crest work under the over hang, then the fence on top.

It is. I find ornate brickwork fascinating and my love of it caused a DNF for a MIK several years back because I just couldn’t replicate the brickwork like I wanted it.

Back in my home town of Buffalo, a beautiful 3 story brick building built in 1878 burned a few days ago. Recently it looked like this…

After the fire it looks like this…

The local preservation group is trying to save at least the facade while the city is anxious to tear it down.

We both find we are looking at buildings more then we did before RR. Marie has always liked brick and stone buildings, but now we look at them and think could I model that and where do we put it on our lay out.

Always a shame to lose beautiful old historic buildings but the cost of renovation is prohibitive in most cases, especially on old masonry.
On the left coast the seismic restraint and upgrades alone in a building like that would run into the millions.
Still a shame to lose them though.

Sadly, it was lost today. Technically, the facade could have been saved, but the owner wasn’t interested in investing even though there were huge preservation tax credits available.

@Sawburner - Sorry for disrupting your thread. The buildings are looking good!

Mark, I’m agreeing with Jon, your structures are looking fine!

Disruptions are fine I learn from them. Thanks for the complements, I am having fun doing them.

Hey Jon,
That’s my job alright!
Stop trying to micro manage everything !

Finally got the awnings up, I think it changes the look of the building.

Made some street lights, lamp shade is turned wood, post is 3/16” brake line with a nail brazed on to jam into the ground.

turned wood??
what kind of wood can you turn so thin?

Pine, not so thin about 1/8-3/16" thick, just need sharp tools and a light cut and I have been doing this since high school.

Hobo camp fire

Built a fire for the hobo camp that I am planing on adding come spring. Made from sticks that I burnt with a torch, stones from the drive way, clear plastic that I sanded to get better light transition and fire LEDs from Evan Designs.
