Lube axle journals - NO?

Greg-

From the photo, it appears that the journal holes are not equal. Is this accurate?

Ats Aristo quality control. I had a car with 2 of the journal inserts missing once.

Oh this is great…!!! just take the car out of the box, and put it on the track and expect everything to be perfect>>>>>WRONG…

Do you buy a new automobile and never check the oil before driving it…if so…you sure trust the “system”…!!

Any piece of rolling stock, new or used should be checked for a few things before going into service, but would anyone here listen or read, and put into practice, the suggestions…PROBABLY NOT…so why bother…

Fred Mills

Yeah, you are right Fred, that experience was my wakeup call!

Before, I’d run the loco or a car a couple of laps on the layout, and then check it out, because what could go wrong that quickly.

Well, it did, and I’ll be darned if I can figure out what happened, so the bushings could have been messed up out of the box, or something.

Now I check everything before it hits the rails.

Gee Fred, calm down there buddy. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)I am a technician, so I am one of those oddball sorts who checks out anything that is new to me, before I plug it in, turn it on, and run it.

The guy at the car rental place didn’t understand why I made such a fuss about the car not having enough oil in it. But if I were to blow up the engine, due to lack of oil, who would have to pay for it?

All of my rolling stock goes through the shop before it goes on my rails. Usually to get metal wheels and KaDee couplers. Even if it already has those things, wheels are checked for gauge, and to make sure they are not bound up, and couplers are checked for height.

Umm… I think Fred is being sarcastic, I know he really believes doing it right before putting it on the layout.

I think he’s taking some people to task that say “why bother”…

I could be wrong…

Greg

It is kind of a mixed thing - and speaking of mixed, Fred may be addressing the matter in several aspects on several levels - on the one hand, I default to expecting the rest of the universe to do it like I would, and do it right, and completely, at the factory: on the other hand, several people have said the universe doesn’t revolve around me. (What? Really? Can they document that without getting in to conspiracy theory?) (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
