Loyet Lumber Co. has crawler fever

Yesterday the LLCo. crew aquired 3 more crawlers for the lumber operations, so they decided to do a group photo before they were all tore up.

on the flatcar is a newly aquired Cat 2 ton with the other 2 ton, both awaiting modifications for logging use, an International 340 converted to a logging cruiser, a newly aquired Allis Chalmers Monarch 35, a new John Deere 430 awaiting conversion to a Cat 60, and a Caterpillar 60 converted from a JD 430. not pictured is a John Deere 40 that was scrapped to become a Holt 75 crawler in the future.

The crew will soon be ready for another season

Nice acquisitions Aaron, but I must ask what happened with your other build ?

Thanks Dave! Yea, the crew has been slacking again. Have a little more done, will post soon.

There is that 60 conversion. That’s the one that got me started on my 60 builds a couple years ago.

Don’t go starting something else neat that I will want to do, I have enough on my plate already

Aaron, if you don’t mind me asking, whats the price on these things? I’ve been looking for one with metal tracks, but want a good price since I plan to cut it up for the wheels and tracks.

Rick, you may not want to look at the following conversions then cause you might get more ideas lol. I really enjoyed your thread on building the Cat 60, and that has inspired me to get another JD 430 with metal tracks this time so I could build another, more accurate version. The 2 ton crawlers will have bumpers put on and one might get an enclosed cab and winch, the Monarch 35 will probably get weathered like yours with some logging clutter on it, and the JD 40 (already dissasembled) will become a Holt 75.

J.D. Gallaway, the ones with rubber tracks like the Cat 60 and 2 ton crawlers run for around $25-30 a piece. The ones with metal tracks and extra detail run for around 50-70 but can be found for around 30 sometimes, so I buy them then. The Monarch 35’s tend to sell for about $60.

Aaron,

Been out of touch for a couple weeks (traveling) and am just catching up on these threads.

A Cat/Holt 75 would be a great build. I have a whole bunch of pictures I took a couple of years ago of one that I plan to build “someday”.

Good luck with it.

Rick

Thanks Rick. I look forward to building the 75. the tracks won’t match very good, but I have yet to find an accurate set so they will have to do for now.
