That was the result…

This is what I found in another search. However, one place said there was more to this than reported in the press and Trains. What that means I do not know.

Why in the heck can’t they just stuff and mount it somewhere? Scrapping is completely unnecessary.

It’s so sad when nearsighted people destroy an irreplaceable part of history. I hope that it gets saved.

I was able to find a writeup on the newspaper that the original link refers to…

After a rain storm, apparently oil and bits of asbestos were coming off the loco, so the city paid someone to “mitigate” it…

I read up a bit, and it still is unclear to me that even raising the 50k will do the trick, and why the heck is this being done at the last minute, apparently the order to take care of it was a while ago, and the “mitigation” was delayed by weather… that should have given people a lot more time to handle this without being in “we only have 3 days” etc.

Some of the info looks a bit sketchy at first glance.

I wish them luck in whatever transpires…

Bummer. I’ve heard that Texas is a tough state to raise interest in, or funding for, rail preservation.

They have raised a fair amount of money so far. I hope that they will be able to save the loco with it.

Reading more, this is still uncertain, once they buy it from the contractor who owns it, then they need to transport it and store it somewhere. From what I read, that part is a not for sure thing.

I hope they succeed.

I went to the GoFundMe site and learned that the fellows are restoring another loco and have space for temporary storage and they have found a home in Fla that sez they will restore and run her.

Up to $40,000+ collected …

Well, they upped the Ante, $65,000 is now the goal, but they have $62 thousand and counting. The scrap appraisal was adjusted…

I want to hear piggy banks being shaken!

“adjusted”, yeah the guy who owns the loco figured he could get more money … nice…

Its the American way Greg. Why make a buck when you can make a buck fifty?

Reminds me of that song;

Shakedown

by J Paul Getty and the Trust Makers(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)

Refrain;

‘Oh you want the tender too?’

Well, now they have exceeded their new $65k goal… hope no one else gets greedy, and the money really goes to save the loco.

Greg

Yea.
