Looking For

Small brass eye lets to replace the plastic ones on a USA trains coupler left bar.

Thanks

Don

you might be able to SS ones from a fishing supply store.

I use #1 fish( I think that’s the size)hooks that I buy @ Dick’s sporting goods.

I just cut the shaft where needed.Just bring a coupler lift bar for sizing.

Yup, small fish hooks. Can’t beat 'em. You can even go fishing with the spares.

That’s what I use. Sizes very, not all #1s are the same size but just look at them. Something to remember about fish hooks, in general they are made to rust quickly. That way they don’t stay stuck in a fishes mouth. So don’t leave them damp or in the weather.

You can even thread the end and use a nut if necessary. I don’t remember which ones I did this to as an experiment but I threaded them to take a 00-09 nut.

Thank guy’s never thought of that.

What do you use for glue to hold them in place??

CA glue but mine have not been structural or in a place of wear or significant tension. Not sure how much that would apply to a coupler lift bar but I thinkit would be just fine.

I don’t use them just for looks. Like to have them on the unit. It seems like every time you touch a unit they break.

If no familiar, fish hooks come in many styles and each have the eyelet situated in different positions. What I prefer is what is called a trailer hook. I won’t go into what it is used for but key to its design is a long straight shaft leading to the eye. This allows you to cut the shank to any desired length within reason.

Then you can drill whatever your attaching to as deep as you need and then CA it in place. It won’t likely go anywhere. I was jut messing around with my cheesy die set and threaded a hook that had the right diameter (I believe 1.2 mm i ahve it written down if someone cares to know) to accept a 00-09 nut. It wasn’t a trailer hook though but the principle would be the same. You make it long enough to go through what your mounting to and actually bolt it on with a nut and washer and it sure as heck ain’t coming out. This would probably be way overkill but what the heck. I was actually just trying to develop threaded rod to use to attach my link and pin couplers to the body without them pulling off under load and was just using the fish hook wire when I went " hey real threaded eyebolts". I used little ones in HO with CA all the time. Hope that helps.

Found some fish hooks around the house haven’t been using. Just the right size. Had to make

a run for gray paint and CA glue. Got the broken ones drilled out and waiting for the paint to dry.

One unit done.
