I know I need a new project like I need another hole in my head, but am having thoughts on kitbashing a private car for a shortline railroad. I am looking at an Aristo Heavyweight combine that I like, and thinking of modifying it into a private car, but keeping the baggage door. Has anyone seen a prototype like this, or pictures. Any ideas or pictures welcome
There is a guy one topic above this one looking to do the very same thing! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
hmmm, I wonder if I know that guy, looks like a shady character hahaha

I donât know if he is a shady character or not, but he seems to be âour kind of guyâ. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
Basically some fancy curtains in the windows, an extra chimney or two, some fancy paint and lettering, and an observation porch and you have a private car. Unless you are going to completely furnish and build the inside, of course.
Kind of what I was thinking John. Biggest thing is trying to justify a standard gauge private car on a narrow gauge short line. Trying to think of a way to make it appear a little more narrow gauge without really doing much to the car body itself
What about a Bachmann Jackson Sharpe combine then?
I thought about that, or even a couple aristo sierras put together, but would like a more solid car for travel to other layouts. I have a chance to get a heavyweight, and I like the overall look, just trying to think of an excuse to get it lol
Just get it, and then figure out what to with it later.
Oh, thats the advice I gave myself, and now I am tripping over stuff. Oh well, at least I do not have an excuse for being bored.

Aaron,
I just bashed an Aristo Heavyweight Observation into a regular coach. The platform, railings and awning just unscrewed, so I saved them in case I ever wanted to put them back, or in case I sold the coach. See
My guess is the parts I took off will bolt right on to your combine. I might be persuaded to part with them.

lol thats the same problem I am currently having, and why the pile on my bench is taller than me
Do you need a HW Obs? I think I have one in the box. PM meâŚI think itâs PRR, but you never know about remembering that stuff.

I donât think Iâve seen a private car with a baggage door, except maybe on âWild, Wild Westâ (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
But Iâm sure it was probably done. After all, theyâre custom.
So I imagine anything goes.

A baggage door would certainly be handy to load provisions for the kitchen and the bar. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Workbench? Oh yea, thats under that pile of boxes and half done projects. Or maybe its that pile, it could be under the other pile, no, nope it wasnât in that roomâŚ
Check into private cars for the Kentucky Derby, a baggage door would be a good way to get your prized hoss out and on itâs way to the finish line.
