Looking for Rail (1:1)

Hi all,

Can anyone suggest a place that I might be able to aquire small pieces of prototype rail? I’m looking for small sections (less than 12") for two things: 1) a small metalwork anvil and 2) my dad has always wanted a small piece or two for a book end or set of book ends.

Thanks!

Look around for local blacksmiths, they usually have their nose to the ground for stuff they can work with. Or try FB Marketplace

You can find rail bookends on Etsy, but they ain’t cheap.
Unless you have a plasma cutter, cutting your own piece with a saw, usually a horizontal bandsaw made especially for steel would be needed.
Most machine shops have one.

I bought a one foot piece on eBay. There are a couple of pieces on there now, but pricey shipping.

Light rail but suitable for your purposes.

Facebook marketplace is a great place for strange local purchases like that. Maybe that’s what Danimal showed?

Not sure where you live, but for example, this is in Whitinsville, MA:

OK, this was in Princeton MA:

Plenty of cutoffs laying in the woods just off of Norman St. Enola, PA. Just keep an eye out for the white trucks with black lettering.
