Looking for Custom Loco Service

Hi Everyone,

I’m new to the forum but not the hobby. I’m looking for a quality Loco Customization service I can “contract out” a few projects too. I work for the railroad (imagine that) and don’t have much time or the patience to get a result I really want for my locomotives. Scope of the work includes setting up battery and remote control systems, some moderate detail modifications and paint and decals on 1st generation diesels (Aristocraft and USAT) I’ve sent some emails out to some places Ive found online but I haven’t had any bites. I have the models and research already done, I just need a good “Locomotive Shop”.

Anybody here have any suggestions or good previous experiences? Thanks for the help!

Shawmut Car Shops is one place. www.shawmutcarshops.com .

Tom,

For your battery and remote control installation, check out G Scale Installations. Here’s the link to their website: www.gscaleinstallations.com phone: 717-741-3060 Robert Buck is the owner and he’s located out of York, PA.

I talked to Shawmut Car Shops, I was hoping they would be the answer for me but they told me the scope of the modifications I need to be done is too involved for them. Generally, numberboard changes, ventilation fan changes, hatch doors, etc etc.

Try John Wagner,

He’s made a bunch of locos from scratch (U50 and F45), converted some to ‘B’ units and heavily detailed quite a few more. He just finished a really well detailed PA/PB for last summer’s fair.

He’s working on re-painting an S-4 and building an F45 from scratch for me right now.

He was running the PA set (before it was painted) and U50 at the Fairplex layout last June:

If you’re interested, message me your email and I’ll send it off to him.

Welcome Thomas !

I recommend Shawmut Car Shops.

I’m not sure if you are on facebook, but there is a g scale group on there. You could ask there too. You have to ask to join the group, but it didn’t take very long for the admin to approve me.

I used to have a link to somebody that did custom work, besides Shawmut. I’ll see if I can find it.

John, he said Shawmut said the job was too involved.

Man, that does not sound like him.

You might be looking for two people. One for modeling and one for the electronic changes.
