I am looking for a G scale live steam starter loco. I would like a US style loco if I could, but if not I’d try others
The one Shawn has looks nice to me.
Any one have any suggestions?
I have been looking too. I have been recommended to get the Aristo Forney. Certain setup and features as well as a low price for a starter.
I highly recommend the AML 0-6-0. It’s definitely the best deal out there right now. You don’t often see a live steam loco of this size for under $1000. I know it’s slightly more than the Forney, but I think it’s worth it. I bought mine last August. It’s my first and only (so-far) live steamer. It runs great and looks great right out of the box. Of course if you’re not into standard gauge 1:29 you may want to consider something else.
Here’s a video of mine (and some other steamers):

I purchased an Accucraft 2-4-4 from Bob at the live steam tracks for$615.00
That was $35.00 less than Aristos 0-4-4 at the show.
David
Good choice.

The only thing I changed on this loco so far is the hideous star on the firebox door that is now all red and waiting a brass #2 And decals for the tank.

Nice choo-choo. Does the whistle blow?
Videos, please.
Steve;
Sorry to say it has no whistle.

Yeah, we bin waiting around for AGES now - so where are the videos?
You know that if a REAL steam locomotive is not run at least once a week it quickly disintegrates into a pile of dust like a vampire at dawn?
Although there ARE whistles on the market - the cheepest [a play on words] version by Regner is eminently suitish for this little loco.

Well Tac,
I was working on the track 2 part days to get it in shape to run the train. I changed the track a little and fixed one of the four wash outs.
Most of the time waiting for the rain to stop, and working on my tractor so I can haul the stone around back.
Best excuse I can think of for now.
I almost for got, I got rid of the star on the number plate in front of the smoke box.
It is all red waiting for a #2.
And where would one find the Regner whistle?
I’m getting ready for work watching it rain.
