I have been trying to get a Kalamazoo tank car (any color) on ebay but either get outbided or the price is to high. Anyone out their have one they are willing to sell?
Good luck! I want about 3 of them, too.
But not for $45+
Have you two been bidding each other up
Ralph
Are these the ones that came in the plastic bag from HLW or something else?
No Ric, they’re the larger ones. They’re shorter than the Bachmann ones, real nice for smaller layouts-- hence the price.

Ralph, I’ve given up bidding over $25 including shipping a while back. I got 1 in the last 3 years at my price. I figure I’ll find more eventually (but not, it seems, until Shawn gets a few, first )
You guys could help each other out a bit by agreeing which of you is going to bid on this one. Nothing against Mik, but since Shawn started this thread, how about letting him have this one, Mik; and Shawn, you agree to watch out for the next one and you’ll let Mik have it.
Just a thought and none of my darn business, I know… So I’ll shaddup and go home now…
John, It’s out of my preferred price range, and I mostly only bid the first few days of the month, anyway. Good luck on it, if you want it, Shawn.
Whats your preferred price range? Free?
Fred Weigold said:They aren't particularly "rare", nor are they really "collectible". No matter what a seller wants to call them. So does anybody REALLY believe a 30-year-old used plastic toy is worth more now than it cost when new? I certainly don't. I also have a rather small fixed income I have to live within. That's why I said $25 above.

But YMMV
Fred W., Mik sez $25 max including postage a couple of posts back.
That may not be so easy to do on E-bay, because of the shipping costs, but at a swap meet it might be done, esp. if yr prepared to accept plastic wheels. Just shipping a freight car to Canada will cost close to $25.00, figure more when Can. gov’t nabs taxes on top of everything else.
Oh, and did I mention the service charge? The last order of train stuff I got from the USA, the post office up here charged me $18.00 service for collecting the tax off me.
Yup, you heard that right - the service charge was ON TOP of the tax!!!
I suspect this extra charge is a breach of international postal agreements, BTW…
Anyway, that’s why I only have four tank cars, and no plans to buy any more…
Maybe I should get me a long, fast, cigarette boat for running large scale trains across from Rochester. Lots of room for profit in there somewhere…
That’s wierd John as I live up here as well. Almost all of my train stuff including 2 Locos, many sets of trucks, bits and pieces, couplers, rolling stock and an ART TE system have all come from south of the border. No duty, taxes, service charges or anything else, my cost was what I sent to the seller, nothing more.

I once asked what physical street address the guy had used to get his. He laughed and said he just used the post office’s… Not sure that would work anymore with the War on Drugs and War on Terror crap. A motel addy might tho.
I’m sure there’s probably a Canadian law agin it, tho.
Fred Weigold said:It all depends. I dont really play the bid game because i cant be bothered fighting for it. If i throw a bid someone alwasys goes higher. Like mik said they are not vintage etc..... The only reason i want oneo is because of the size and all my rolling stock are kalamazoo or hlw. If you have one send me an email. Bachmann are a few inches too long. Mik i only want one you can have all the others. :)

The only way to work eBay is to snipe. I’ve been pretty successful just watching closely in the last few minutes. Bid your number in the last few seconds. If your lucky, you are the only one watching that close and it will end with you on top. If it goes over you price before the last few minutes then just pass.
I wish I could think of the name of the software that will help you snipe on eBay. I’m sure it could be found in a google search. You set your maximum bid and it watches the item during the last minute. If the price has not gone over you max, it will bid in the last 3-4 seconds for you. Guy i use to work with used it all the time for electronics and computer stuff he wanted. A lot of the large scale stuff pops up often enough that I can usually win in the last 30 seconds if it hasn’t gone over my willing to pay price.

My mileage varies. Sometimes I get lucky and something will come through the same way for me as they seem to for you. That’s a good day, and it’s rare enough.
Did you get the Harmonized Sales Tax up there in BC ? Here in Ont. we got it; O boy did we ever, and that means the Fed stops our mail to collect what used to be two separate taxes, and no Ont tax was collected back then you see, but now of course it’s all one so they take it altogether.
I know that things also vary from post office to post office, believe it or not. You’d think it was consistent, wouldn’t you, but it’s anything but.
For example, I have a postmistress here who’s out for every single last solitary cent she can get, and so she charges the absolute max, actually pushing the envelope as far as she can. She actually asks you what’s in any packages you’re sending out, because if it isn’t a document she’ll charge you a higher rate. Reminds me of those harsh teachers who should never be exposed to children. Down the road there’s another post office where they are just lenient by nature, knowing the whole thing is a ripoff, and really refusing to be unreasonable, by winks and nods, as much as they can.
Unfortunately, most of my stuff comes in thru the first creature’s post office.
I bet up there in the mountains, people are just made more casual in general compared to these high pressure city folks.
These officious ‘public servants’ are the worst… fundamentally inadequate, small-minded little people who feel bigger with their little uniforms, their little rule books and their tiny portions of discretionary power. Naturally incapabable of self-governance, they soon become abusive with it…

You are truly a standup guy! You always have been generous in helping club members.
