Looking for a diesel generator sound

I’m trying to find a large diesel generator sound module.
It is for a stationary diecast generator on the layout.
It doesn’t have to be an exact sound.
I tried ITT sound and came up short.
Any ideas?

I suggest that you talk to Del Tapparo at G Scale Graphics in Colorado. Their MyLocoSound light diesel soundcard has engine sounds which would suit.

There used to be a line of stationary sound cards, and somewhere in my stuff I have an engine one, but danged if I can find it, or remember who had them. As I recall, they were fairly cheap, but worked pretty well.

John, someone out there probably has a suitable recording, but you’re going to have to wait to find something to install. In the mean time I’m here to help.

And because you’re not concerned about accuracy, consider grabbing a 6-pack, cracking a cold one and watch this video. Somewhere between can #2 & can #6, I suspect you might even believe this is a great idea. (once you get past new ways to spell vibrate)

It’s already making me smile.

This may of course will lead to more experimentation.

  • 12 oz standard can – lighter, buzzy industrial note
  • 16 oz tallboy – a solid, throaty diesel feel
  • 24 oz “silo” can – deeper, heavier rumble
  • 32 oz crowler – big resonance and low-end growl

If you still aren’t sure this is a good idea, open the next 6-pack and invite 5 of us over to help. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

John, I had a similar need a few years back. The audio card I used is this:

You record your own audio onto the chip, plug the chip into the card, and hook up power and a speaker. It has trigger inputs for one or more buttons.

Similar & lower-wattage units might suffice, such as this one, but I don’t know for sure. You’d have to remotify at least one switch I think.

John - I can supply a CAT Diesel sound. Contact me directly or put CAT Diesel in the order notes.
