Looking for a back issue Model Railroader

I’m in search of the November 1982 issue of Model Railroader Magazine. I would purchase a back issue but according to their website I cannot get one back that far. If any of you guys have it, I would greatly appreciate if you would contact me via e-mail or respond to this post.

Thanks!
Rooster

If I could only remember where I put the MR’s I saved I might just have that one. I moved to CT in '82 and was spending a lot of time in hobby shops and bought quite a few copies of MR that year. I only saved the few that had articles I wanted to keep, but I’ll be darned if I now where I squirreled them away to :frowning:

Me too Jon, a few years back I got rid of all my MR’s, thought would never be into the hobby again, 'til I found this site. Sheeet!!! Sorry Rooster, I know I would have had that issue.

Which part of that issue are you interested in? I could run you a PDF of whatever.

Floor plans for the Amtrak Superliners?

I actually own that issue. In my file cabinet, in chronological order. Never thought I’d see the day that it would be in demand…Amtrak drawings are pretty sweet…

Come on rooster you have to tell us what your up to. It better have something to do with steam.

The 1982 Model Railroader is surprisingly still one of the best sources for Superliner drawings, but it only covers Superliner I cars. Superliner II’s started to arrive in 1994. The best I’ve ever seen for Superliner II cars are the actual manuals issued to Amtrak. I have long been trying to find one.

If you haven’t already seen this, here’s a website that has some photos of the 1982 MR drawings:

Amtrak Superliners

I also have a .pdf file for the Amtrak Superliner manual (Superliner I only). It has loads of information on the cars as well as drawings.

Superliner Manual

Hope this is helpful.

Do the math....seems everyone else knows but you?

Matt,
Thanks I grabbed the PDF of the manual I appreciate that and had not seen it before. Hoping H.J. can do the same with the drawings. I drew up my own plans based off the California cars specs. Learning that between the LGB and Aristo models 1:29 is a fine line in comparison to my drawings.

Psssssst, son… for 1/29th, get an accurate HO scale car and measure, then times that by 3… it’s so close…

Being polite :)…Yes father I know!

H.J. I haven't gotten a response so I'm wondering if you have what I'm after and if not that is fine I can source elsewhere?

Rooster:

I get 20 “Amtrak” hits back to 1986. If you click on an issue, you can find a small description of the article.

Any other MR issues you think you might want?

Pre-1986 MR issues with Amtrak:

Jan 72 What Amtrak means to model railroaders, by Trains Magazine editor David P. Morgan
Aug 74 Amtrak passenger cars, painting and lettering for varied window arrangements, by Jim Hediger
Nov 82 Amtrak’s Superliners Prototype (foldout) plans and information on America’s newest passenger cars, by Jim Hediger

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

E mail sent…Thanks Joe for your assistance on a current modeling project that I hope will pan out!
June of 1991 and August of 1992 articles sound appealing but I can still purchase them.
