Longwood Gardens Garden Railroad display

I took a ride up to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. yesterday to check out their garden railroad display. Very nicely done. I spent about an hour chatting with the fellow that runs the display. It gets set up on Labor Day and runs till Dec. It’s not a permanent display as it gets taken down every year and re-designed and set back up.

So, if anybody is in the Southern Chester County area, I’d suggest a visit to Longwood, if not for the trains, then for the excellent botanical gardens.

BTW, I’m not affiliated with this place and I should be ashamed of myself for not going there more frequently since it’s only 10 miles away. They also have an excellent Christmas Display that runs from Dec. to Jan. and the only reason I’ve not seen that is because I have an aversion to large crowds. …(and you have to take a shuttle bus from across Rte 1 into the place to view the display). http://www.longwoodgardens.org/lwgHome.html

An aversion to large crowds ? C’mon, I’ve seen your FB profile picture

The gardens look beautiful.
The bridges on the GRR are pretty awesome.

The guy I was chatting with told me they built the bridge over a weekend and it’s modeled after a bridge in Sydney Australia. The trestle type bridge was built over the same time period and was modeled after the the one in Georgetown, CO.
