There is a book out there called the “Loggers Lexicon” by a couple of well known guys, in logging railroad history, that covers a ton of this kind of information

Interesting how many of the different industries slang words have migrated to normal(?) everyday speech!
You are right Pete and the railroad industry is probably the biggest contributor.
