Logging Caboose

He is probably from the Bruce Chandler signature collection

-Brian

I wish. He’s from “Fine Folk Figures”. You can see them over at http://www.warriorrunlocoworks.com/finefolk.php

I think I’m done. I made the smokestack from a brass rod and some brass sheet. Covered the roof to look like canvas. Added the brakewheels and reattached the couplers and trucks. A bit of paint and some decals.

I’ve finally got my logging caboose, and I’ve very pleased that I was able to build it from material I had on hand.

Very spiffy!!

Do you use decals or dry transfers?

Gorgeous Bruce! I like the weathered red paint job. I’ve always had a fondness for that style caboose as well. With your model building skills who needs a Hartford kit anyway?

Thanks.
Ken, the logo is a decal, the numbers are dry transfers.

Richard, I tried something different this time. I first put my India ink/alcohol solution on the caboose, then painted it. The red paint was thin to start with and I really liked how it ended up. I put the solution on afterwards as well. Then I used that Dead Flat spray after the decals. I do like that stuff - thanks for the recommendation.

Good work Bruce and another piece of inventory, also.

Bruce,

I’ll be happy to break it in on the Mansfield Branch of the Chumstick River and Tumwater Northern RR. I’ll even provide a full testing report!

That is gorgeous!

I’ve got 5 log cars and the logging caboose to make up my log train. I made a carrier that can carry up to 8 cars awhile back; and it just so happens that it can carry my caboose as well - as long as I keep the carrier on the top shelf.

It’s open on the front, and closed in on the back.

Now I can get my logging train out in just one trip. I still have room for 3 more cars; but I haven’t found anything I really like. The Don Winter kits were perfect for me. I could scratch build, but then I need some of those trucks. In the meantime, 5 cars is just about right for my log train; though I do need some more logs.
