Logging Arch

Richard,

If the Old Mill Lumber Company ever moves into the logging business please contact us for sales brochures on our entire equipment line.

Dave,

What is the build challange for 14’ going to be or is that still in “stealth” mode?

John,

I will get some pictures of the arches with the “Cats” when I get them finished. Weather I can post them remains to be seen.

Thanks guys.

Rick

Rick, A secret until announced at the first of the year. That way nobody can get a un-fair head start. This years challenge, will be even better then the past ones. With your talents I expect to see that you will give last years winners a real challenge for the title and bragging rights. Oh yah, and a cool build to share with the world.

Edit: And the winning prizes aren’t to bad either, if I say say so my self.

SPEC-CAST did a dozer and Kerry Arch. 1/25. was @ 3000 Toys, Joplin.

oh, yeah, that i understand.

another of my preferred forums, the british G-scale central, just changed everything.
aparently everybody thinks, software has to be changed every six months nowadays…

Change for change sake I reckon.

Been slow progress lately as I have been busy with other things, and these little fiddling parts I seem to have to build 2-3 times to get them right.

The hitch to the back of the Cat is complete except for the drop pin. The cable guide lacks a few finishing touches and the Fairlead is off to a good start. It took quite a while to figure out how to go about building some of these parts.

A close view of the new parts. Another thing that slows progress is waiting for the welder to harden so the small parts can be handled for further building.

Picture posting seems to work much better for me now, just had to grind off the rough edges I guess.

Hi all,

Well all finished up, just have to wait for the weather to moderate a little so I can do some painting

and finishing.

That turned out nice. I see it managed to snag a clamp on it’s way outside, too…

excellent build Rick

So is the next build going to replace the clamp? :stuck_out_tongue:

Looks great Rick. Glad you’ve got the picture posting thing back under control!

I have never seen any slacking chain in his builds.

Nice work Rick!

Wow, I knew that it had been a while but didn’t realize that it had been 2 1/2 months. Well I finally have them painted and weathered and am able to call them finished. The prototype picture is of an arch that was built in the late 20’s early 30’s and what it looks like in 2013. My builds represent the same arch but in 1939 and still being used so they are not quite so weathered and battered.

Everybody claims to like pictures so here they are, hope its not too many.

Rick,

Wow, that is some fine piece of modeling, and the photography is terrific too!

What’s the advantage of using a logging arch instead of just dragging the log on the ground?

Wonderful weathering job. Not too much, but not to little. The dozer on the other hand looks a little to clean.

I’m just guessing, but it’s probably to keep it from getting caught on rocks, roots, and anything else, plus there’s less resistance with just a smaller part dragging the ground.

I like that crawler too, but, yea, it does need to be “durtied” up bit…

That really looks great. Nice weathering. Its just right.

I love it, Nice job.

Beautiful models. Love the shots hauling the log out of the forest.

There sure aren’t too many images, Rick… There’s enough to really show what you’ve done.

What a wonderful job…

The precision detail is awesome…

Just an awesome job… Many thumbs up…
