Log train!

Not trying to steal Shawn’s thunder, but I had the Consolidation #5 and log train outside today for the first time. That long rigid wheelbase is a lot fussier than the little 0-4-0, it took me about 45 minutes to shim up all the dips in the track so she’d stay on.

And a 25 second clip… Yes, she’s hauling a–, she wanted to slip on the grade at slower speeds… [url=http://s397.photobucket.com/albums/pp52/steamnut1917/new%20AV/?action=view¤t=P6250006.mp4]

Fine looking train you have Mik. Logging trains have a great charm I believe.

A reminder to get logs onto a couple of flatbeds here.

Keep it short or hollow the logs out. Those 3 are about all the Aristo drive was willing to pull on a 2% grade - I got full wheelslip if I added a 2 axle boxcar…

I love log trains Mik. Not stealing my thunder, its good to see another line hauling logs. You even gave me an idea by adding side posts to my log cars. Your RR is looking great.

Those log cars are based on the ones at Pisgah Forest NC. Cale’s pics, stol---- err, borrowed from elsewhere;

Here’s a close-up of how I did the release rods (non-functional)

If I could find 1/8" x .030 brass strip I’d make at least 3 more. But K&S doesn’t list it anymore.

Mik, next time you open a corned beef, have a close look at the strip, you roll on the key…

… they are pre-cut lengthwise.

Nice idea Korm, thanks. But I’m not quite desperate enough to EAT corned beef

Try http://www.hobbylinc.com They have K&S flat bar 1/8" by 1/32" or 1/64", both in stock.

Corned Beef, Spam, Sardines and even canned ham use the key. Maybe I'm strange, but I like em all ;) Ralph

So is the sawmill under construction yet?

This one? It will be on display at the Ashtabula Engine Show in Wayne Center, OH next weekend (probably just the 2nd and 3rd)

Or one suitable for outdoors?

I still need to get one of those engines for my sawmill. I keep forgeting to keep my eyes open.

Shawn, I have a Case traction engine here, partially reworked into a more ‘scale’ appearance. $40 as it is, a bit more if you wait until I finish it (still needs the steering gear, clutch, and governor finished – the brand new ones are $65 without the mods)

Or I also have a partially completed Russell Portable for $60… (I sold those for $90)

Mik, don’t be a snob!
every time mi wife is not at home, the corned beef comes in handy. open it, heat it, eat it, forget it. and if she’s away for two days, it’s beans and bacon (no use for the tins yet). (third day oil sardines, after that i start over again)
next pizza hut, burger king and mc donalds at 300 miles - here abouts we still got the junk in the yard, not in the kichen.

I’m not a southern boy and I like corned beef and spam. Even though I was born in Milwaukee and a Norwegian I don’t care much for sardines.

Ralph, Have you ever had a Spamcicle?

Take a 1 X 2 X 3 inch chunk of Spam, skewer it on a popcicle stick, and chow down.

I grossed out my Boy Scouts doing that once… just once. :stuck_out_tongue:
