Log Loader

For the past few years a log loader was one project that has been on my honey do list. Back in early spring I had started this project because the weather was cold and wet still and most years spring in these parts tend to be cold wet and snowy. Almost four months later I finally finished the log loader. I wanted it to be similar to a Barnhart log loader but of course like everything I build I add a little backwoods touch to it. Plus I had to make it fit in the covered bridge. Some modification had to be done. Sorry not much of a build log.

The frame and flatcar. The boom was replaced with something more on the ends of what the Barnhart loader had.

Sides and roof added

The finished project

It fits your Railroad…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

very cool

WOW great build

Well done Shawn! Your line will be a leader in the timber industry now.

Looks great, It will fit in just right with your new loggers.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Watch out Rooster those tongs look sharp!

Thanks guys. I got to test it out yesterday (see video) It handled the layout great and already started on the timber.

Sweet Loader Shawn! Ken’s right, it looks right at home.

A trick for the line holding the tongs. Soak the portion in between the cab and pulley in diluted white glue. Then hang a heavy weight from the tongs and let it dry.

Keep on clearing forest!

looks good.

are you going to make more cars with rails upon it?

Thanks guys.

Korm I might someday make the log cars with rails. I wish I knew what loader I was going to build before I built all those log boggies lol…

The co-star from the video! Bravo

Randy’s suggestion for the cable between the cab and the tongs is a good one. It needs to show a straight cable so the tongs look like they have some weight.

VERY nice , what are you using for motive power on your railroad ? I really like seeing logging equipment !

Thanks Randy and Andrew for the tip. I was wondering the bst way to get the cable tight.

Dale Im using a few different things for motive power, mainly live steam like a Shay, Climax and some smaller geared steamers like my Lumberjack and Cricket. For non steam powered Im using a battery powered bachmann Forney and my scratch built climax.

Very nice (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
