Locomotive Sctrachbuild Thus Far.

It’s been a while since my last update on the locomotive I’m building. So far so good. The basic components of the boiler and cab are complete, next I need to strengthen the rear of the motorblock so it doesn’t sag. Still a bit of cosmetic work is in order like some sanding here and there but I’m very pleased with the way this is turning out for my first scratchbuild.

Cool, but why does it have blinders on?

Well it is European after all.

Nice progress

Looking good!

Caleb,

As someone else that is working on a ground up build it is nice to see your progress. I like the cab. I assume the prototype is a steel cab. What era is this from?

Well the thing about the prototype is that it’s a fictional locomotive from a movie (Anastasia) so there’s no technical specifications for it. I’d say 1910’s or 1920’s which is when the film takes place. The cab is steel, yes. There’s also a tender that goes with it with a cab in the front to make it look Russian. Kind of silly since the cab already looks like a tank locomotive but I’m going for accuracy here.

Some more progress. Tender is now built with the Russian style cabin for the brakeman.

Agreed, Very nice. I had to look up that movie. Definitely going to rent it some time. I’ve always thought that the Russian designs were the most appealing/impressive of the Euro group.

I’d definately check it out, it’s a good movie especially if you’re a fan of animated films. The loco they uesd was a modified MThB EC 3/5 2-6-2T with added tender and smoke deflectors.

Nice work so far Caleb

Looking very good!

I second the out-FREAKING-standing comment. That is just a cool looking design. It is coming out very nice indeed.

“Smashing,” Caleb. “Brilliant,” and all those other Britishisms.

Haha thank you Joe. And thank you everyone else for the feedback. I’ve got a little update, the loco and tender is now painted (cab and tender are still in primer “livery”) but it looks so much better now that everything is one colour.

Great job

That design is really neat and your execution is very nice. It does have the Russian feel to it which is low, wide, rugged, powerful like a bear.
I like how the cab roof continues to the tender and that the tender is really tight to the loco.

Looking really good so far.

That looks terrific Caleb. You did an excellent job.

It is coming together. I felt the same way when mine ended up one color.

Very nice job.

I like it and I’m not even into steam locomotives
