Guys, what do most of you use to lube your locomotives and rolling stock wheels, axles, etc.? My layout is track powered, and it’s not been used for a couple of years. I’m rebuilding it and hope to have things rolling in two or three weeks, hence the train equipment really needs lubricating before I run them again. What have you found to be the best choice(s)?
For rolling stock, steel axles in plastic journals I use graphite, for metal in metal a medium oil.
On locos, light oil on valve gear, heavy oil on journals, gear “gel” on gears. The gel sticks to the gears and does not get thrown off like regular grease.
Specific locos need specific areas lubed.
I like the hob-e-lube products, inexpensive with a good range of products

I use the Bachmann ‘EZ-lube’ light oil on all my rolling stock axles…Amazing what one drop per axle will do for rolling resistance! I use their heavier gear oil for steam loco rods and linkages. Plastic safe (so they tell me). Isn’t cheap but a little bottle has lasted me two years and still has about 1/2 left. I usually apply a drop per wheel at the beginning of the season or 1st use.
Thanks guys. I have the E-Z Lube. Gear gel and graphic I’ll get. I expect it will take nearly as much time to lube everything as the track rebuild is taking, Argh! Since we lost our only G gauge shop in New Mexico, I’ll need to order on line. Not so much of a problem.
I like the Labelle Products
Labelle does make something I use, the white powdered teflon… in places where graphite would make a mess or be visible.
