I’ve got a Roundhouse Katie chassis and boiler kit on order to kit bash into a 7/8" estate engine on 32mm track.
I’m looking for Brian Wilson’s book “Steam Trains in Your Garden” for help and inspiration, and I find it is long
out of print. Does anyone know where I can get a copy, or does anyone want to part with their copy of this book?
I’ve got a copy of Steve Booth’s “Master Railroad Builder”, a treatise on 1.5 scale to trade, if that will sweeten the pot.
You can email me back channel at; [email protected]
Thanks for any help or info!
When I bought my copy about 4 years ago it was already a while out of print. I bought one of the last few copys available and 2 other friends I know got them too. Shortly after there were none left. I have only heard of one guy that sold a extra copy over the last few years on the forums/groups. Are you looking just to have the overall drawings or are you wanting to build if from scratch using the roundhouse cylinders?
One of the Yahoo groups has most of the 7/8 Jack files as the book was in 16mm. Brian did a 2nd version of the loco in 7/8 and offered casting and such at that point. I am luckey enough to have a set of laser parts and castings. Shoot me an email as I have all the files saved on my PC
Thanks for the reply, Jason. I’m looking for the book to learn how to scratchbuild and work with brass. From what I’ve seen and heard, it is a great instructional manual.
I am fond of saddle tank engines. The Jack is no longer available, so that’s why I chose the Millie to bash. I’ll email you for further info.
I just got a reply from the publishers of Brian Wilson’s excellent book, advising me that there would not ever be any more. They told me that although they initially flew out of the door, the last couple of dozen hung around for ages - not surprising when you think that all those living in OZ who wanted it had got it by then, and it was a well-kept secret for the rest of the world.
They further told me that it would take a run of 3000 copies to make any kind of a reasonable profit, so it ain’t ever goin’ to happen.

Thanks for the bad news, tac! Just kidding…
Pretty hard headed that publisher is.
Would someone out there put me in your will?
