Live Streaming Video

Hey Ya’ll,

Getting the photo/video gear ready for the return of the Norfolk & Western #611 to Roanoke, VA under her own steam power tomorrow - 30 May. I’ll be conducting a grand experiment with a new video stream app called ‘Periscope’ that sends live video to Twitter. If you have a Twitter account and want to follow along, my Twitter account is @scotty_macd. Just make sure you use the underscore as shown or you’ll get another person. If you do follow, I’ll be looking for feedback on how well it worked. A couple of things that I already know about its quirks is that the video will only be in vertical (portrait) mode as that is a limitation of the app. Yeah, not the best for trains. Also, the video will only be available live, as Twitter doesn’t store it as a file that can be recovered later. That’s limitation #2 although I can save the file off and use it later. I’ll post pics & regular video sometime on Sunday evening.

I will be broadcasting at various times between 12:00 noon and 4:00pm depending on the schedule. Each broadcast will probably be around five minutes each or so. Like I said its all experimental.

Scott

I don’t tweet, but I’ll be looking forward to your regular video. Sounds like you’re in for a fun day. Good luck with it all!

I’ll be heading out again this weekend (June 6) to chase #611. Will try again to use the video streaming app if I can get at least three bars while out in the wilds of Northern VA. I have made some changes to my Twitter accounts. You can find it now as @SmallScaleSteam for railfan and live steam stuff. The other @scotty_macd will get you updates on my other hobby - birding. Thought I’d separate the two so as to not confuse anyone.
