Live steam traction and Inclines

Hi Folks

I haven’t been here for a while as I got sidetracked into a new hobby of restoring old stationary steam engines. (long story)

https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/modelandtoysteamforum/viewtopic.php?p=35688#p35688

Anyway… Im here because Im in need of new drive train gears. The gears have paid the price of climbing all those steep inclines, despite judicious oiling up before every run. If you have ever seen the lumberjack gears you would notice that they are fairly lightweight compared to something like meccano gears.

I have contacted a few retailers regarding purchasing new gears, but with all the Regner company turmoil and new “direct sales” business strategy, the suppliers are no longer being supplied parts. I have sent Regner a parts enquiry today.

Question…Has anyone used third party gears as a replacement? Including the gear in between the cylinders?

Cheers

Rob

Rob, have you tried Jason at The Train Department?

Hi Mike

No I havent. I tried a UK dealer and the French dealer I bought the engine from. The French dealer said Regner is no longer supplying parts to him and he is a little cranky, to say the least.

If the TrainDept has some in stock I might be in luck.

Cheers

Rob, I would ask Jason at TTD and also ask if the gears in all the Regner Easy Line locos are the same - I suspect they are. Maybe he can get some spares from the factory for all future needs!

Good news… and not so good for some.

I sourced replacement gears for my Regner Lumberjack and I had to go directly to Regner.

After all the kafuffle of going into receivership etc they have a new owner and new business plan.

They now sell directly in an online store. This has peeved a few suppliers I have communicated with, but looks to be new norm.

The other problem is that everything is in the German Language. Google Chrome helps but is not the best.

Cheers

No reason you shouldn’t be able to get gears from http://www.sdp-si.com/products/Gears/Index.php

I have used their gears before. I tried regearing my lumberjack with them. They fit but I’m having a hard time getting the gears to match with each other. Only because I don’t have a full understanding on all the numberings for size etc.

I just texted Jay from the train Dept and he said he has some gears in stock.

Double post. Why can’t we have a delete post button?

HI Shawn

I looked at the SDP website and found what I think are the same size and tooth number. The hubs on some are huge, so I chose those with a smaller hub… but they do not have locking screws so Ill need to drill and tap a grub screw.

Im a bit wary of buying them yet until I have new originals so I can measure them.

Are these the same that you bought.
