Live steam micro layout

Nico I was thinking about but I don’t have space in the car. Do you think we can fit it in the club trailer?

Vic I love those pictures. You have me thinking. Keep the ideas coming.

Shawn,

Give me some dimensions an I can let you know.

Making a little more progress. I started to do some landscaping. Not an easy task when your use to using real plants. Im learning, I think… I built a small outhouse and made some fencing and retaining walls. I still need to make one more structure for the other siding and then more landscaping. Getting there… The green is not as bright as pictures show.

Looking great Shawn, where’s the video of Konrad running around it?

That looks great.

Beautiful build. Good job. You are doing very well in recreating a natural look in your miniature world.

Doc Tom

Shawn, re your landscaping comment: I have found several types of useful plastic greenery sold in bunches at my local dollar store, where they also sell plastic flowers. I cut these bunches of greenery apart, then re-combine and reshape them to get a variety of effects.
In my case I use my plastic trees and bushes on my indoor setups at shows. Everything has to be portable, so I stand my trees up in tincans weighted with plaster or concrete and pack them up in cardboard boxes. Come showtime, I just set them out, toy-train like, on the flat show tables. This is because I’m out to let the public see everything, just how things are done and how easy it can be for them to get started at a basic level in our hobby. Spares me a lot of questions this way…
Anyway, I think you’d find this stuff useful, and I hope you’re lucky enough to find some. $5.00 will get you all you need and then some.

Excellent build. I will watch as you make progress.

Jon.

That, Sir, is inspirational.

and yes there was a dry weather version:

Sorry for resurrecting a dead head… I meant thread… But I am bit by the micro bu and was sufing old threads and came here. Now just an observation the cold weather version has the steerer out int he open elements while the warm dry weather version has a covered cab. Makes no sense.

As for modeling these throw it in the bucket. My first live steamer. I could do this and get away with it because I wouldn’t need track. build a plow for the winter version and make it big enough to plow the drive way.

I think the “tracks” might chew up your driveway! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

not trying to derail Shawn’s thread but this is a guy in the Netherlands ( i think) built this live steamer using Renger and other parts. He posted in English on the MLS forum http://forums.mylargescale.com/18-live-steam/41562-lomberd-steam-log-hauler.html

Shawn,

Should be room in the Alcove with a little adjustment of tables.

How’d I miss this thread? That is great, Shawn.

Thanks guys. The log hauler is an idea. Might be something I can add to the micro. Maybe a compressed down version or something. Im even thinking about one on the outdoor.

The micro has a few more things that need to be done. More landscaping and a small service station on the other siding. The move and a few other projects got me sidetracked. Glad this thread was brought back to life. I dont mind a thread derailing. Its all part of the fun.
