LIONEL

Can you run LIONEL Brass track outdoors ?

Indiana, I wouldn’t.

The ties won’t hold up well, but the biggest issue is the track pins.
They are brass-plated mild steel, rust like hell and expand badly.

However, if you are radio/battery should be okay.
Rail clamps are not a viable option, as the rail is hollow and clamps will just collapse it.

When we started the CCRy 16 years ago, we had a whole bunch of old lgb and Lionel track.
We used it.
Tore it all out, used what we could in the shed, the rest is aluminum.

Hmmm, I’ve seen hollow brass plated track, and solid brass track with the hideous yellow “TtTE” ties… which are we discussing?

Yellow stuff was “Thomas”.
I had some, thought it was hollow before I pitched it.
The brown-tie Lionel (and I had a bunch) was hollow.

Yes yellow stuff was TtTE, MOST of the stuff I’ve seen WAS hollow…but I found a half circle and 3 turnouts on evilbay that were solid…and had funky circle and socket interlocking parts on the ends of the tie strips like the old Faller “e” train stuff. …I just ASSumed Lionel had finally gotten with the program or something.
