Gentlemen,
I recently acquired several locos, USA Trains, outfitted with the TMCC boards. In the deal were the TMCC power supply, command base, controller and a couple add on pieces. The locos were fitted with the complete Railsounds as well as the usual control board.
The package was priced at the going rate for the locos only so I figured what the heck. Since I am going to use them inside the usual track power and control problems associated with outside conditions won’t be as aggravating.
I tried the three locos on a set of rollers and was pleasantly surpised by the sounds and control. I have a couple smoke units to tweak a bit but other than that I like it!
My plan was to pull the TMCC from the locos and reinstall it in others I already have. However there so many added little details, lights and things as well as a good weathering job on these locos I am going to forget that plan.
I would not have jumped into TMCC as a control choice since there are, in my worthless opinion, better systems for outside use. However for inside use and at the price I got this lot for I am quite pleased. I would have had to spend a bunch more to get the features I have. But at the price it was a great buy.
I need to do a side by side sound comparison of my Sierra and the Railsounds. I should probably have someone else make the comparison. My hearing isn’t close to what it used to be. Too much gunfire and artillery.
The previous owner sold them because he could only run two locos on the track at one time(!)(?)…
He stated they would slow greatly when another was added. He was saying something about why replacing the power supply with a higher capacity version wouldn’t work. None of it made sense to me with my limited electronics background. Is not higher capacity a solution to his complaint whether its AC or DC power?
