Like teargas? Really?

This is kind of funny

I really don’t know that it is that funny and has been a problem for quite some time.

The real problem is that the South Coast Air Quality Management District wouldn’t step in until they get a “certain number” of complaints or it becomes very political, which it has. A “certain number” is based on the number of individuals complaining and not the total number of complaints (e.g., if 1 person complains 27 times it still counts as one complaint).

They have now stepped in and the Food Company would have to make several modifications to the facility to meet compliance (=$$$). (It’s hard enough doing business in the South Coast Air Basin with some of the strictest air quality regulations in the country/world. Our California regulations are stricter than the National regulations.) Loss of this business will impact several local jobs and it’s location is actually fairly remote with respect to residents. Gets harder to do business here all the time.

BTW, tear gas may not be correct, but who wants to smell Pepper Spray all day?

This story is one of those head shaking situations when you realize Irwindale actively courted the company to move there. Now the city looks like a bunch of idgits and the company is seriously considering moving to Texas. Funny how the company was at its previous location for many years without complaints yet the neighbors here probably got a hint of pepper and went crazy.oy!

Vic.

What I find even funnier: people put this “toxic” stuff on/in their food. It (add your own interpretation) must be really “breathtaking”.

And the plant was probably there before the idjits moved in.

No, Huy Fong Foods relocated to Irwindale in 2010.

Todd is on-target with his explanation.
California has its complications for business with rules that are not always consistent with what they are regulating.

Further…
The company product did change with ownership of the plant.
Unfortunately, what is in the tiny bottles doesn’t reflect the thousand gallon manufacturing process.

Here’s hopes they don’t move. Meanwhile, TESLA’s corporate thinkers are still considering California – the Salton Sea area in So. Calif. – for their new battery venture with Panasonic. What does Lithium smell like? Answer: Income to the claimed 6,000 future factory/manufacturing/distribution employees and hopefully California’s regulatory agencies.

I love the stuff! I put it on or in anything remotely Asian. Maybe I better stock up? Na… It doesn’t have quite the right flavor for Mexican.
