Lightning Express of Shanty Hollow

Here’s a nifty little railcar that was built by a kid out of an old Model T that he bought for $5. It actually ran, and was used to give rides to all the local kids.

If you’re interested, you can read about it here (it’s part of a rather interesting account of early living in rural WV): http://www.shawwv.com/betty_bishops_rock.html

Story that goes with that was very interesting. Thanks for posting.

Here’s another interesting railcar. This one is pretty cool… made from part of a Model A Ford mounted on something from Brookville:

Ray doesn’t your line need a speeder? Hint hint

Yep, that’s why I’ve been doing so much research on railcars! I love funky little railcars and critters, and plan to have a whole fleet of them eventually. My first will probably be based on a Model T, and will be called the Tin Lizard.

Although, I am tempted to do one like the above photo first, simply because it would be so easy to bash. The tricky part would be finding a suitable power truck for it; or else getting some spoked wheels and concocting a drivetrain from scratch.

@Ray The Bachmann rear axel for the Rail Truck is available as part #Model: 8239X-OOFO1 That seems to solve the driveline problem…

HLW also (or did) sells the Wadling Goose drive motor/gear/axle.

I just did another Stomper based Railcar. No pics as yet, too many other projects in the way.

What a great story. I grew up hearing many stories much like this from my paternal grandmother, who grew up in the Ozark Hills of southeast Missouri in the early 1900’s. Thanks for sharing.

Very cool Ray. I cant wait to see what you come up with for a railcar. Knowing you I bet it will be nice
