Lighting repair

We been working on some broken wires that most building plug into overhead wires to Tel. /Elect. pole.
Lighting …They are being replaced with Warm white flat head LED’s.

Daytime with old Grain of wheat lamps still on them. Kind of hard to see, but there’s power line from the Pole to the barn.

New LED’s at night.

Most of the Town buildings and 12’ Town Eng. /car storage box has been changed to LED"s

The above and most of the buildings on the layout plug in to Power poles.
"Plugs look like computer chip plugs… Very small and a bummer to solder to with 30 gage wire. "

Fuel Dealer now has the LED’s too.

This one is still plugged in from the bottom. It does have power poles for the LED’s light over head tho.

We are using three Malibu transformers ( The only way to go with timers, but try to get the larger more powerful one that handle 30 or more lights.) for the R.R. lighting and panel stuff so now maybe able to just use one by changing out to LED’s.
We have approx over 50 light to get replaced. LED’s warm white Xmas Flat head sure look better at night than the 12 v. Grain of Wheat lamps. The only thing is Grain of Wheat lamps are little smaller.
We are also using a 1/4 watt Resis. for ea. LED at the power pole so any shorts the Resis. will take the hit and not short out the cir.due to kitty kat’s or other moving varmints.

Nice job Noel. I should do the same, but probably won’t!

I’m a big fan of LED lighting. Lower power consumption, good lighting, no heat, etc. I’m putting them in all my engines.
I want to add them to my stuff outside. I will try and make them waterproof. My LED Christmas lights didn’t last long. Seems water got inside and rusted everything fast. Maybe I could hot melt or caulk the backs to help them survive? Maybe the shrink wrap will do??

Tk’s Jerry B. Ya… if you have a chance the old Malibu Lighting yard sets wok great for the train layout. Just tap off of it on a few LED’s to some of your building and a neat added fetcher.
Be neat on one of your bridges and the Eng. shed. Maybe a cheap log cabin.

Joe… I have to put some masking tape around the LED and spray some clear seal coat on the rest of the Xmas holder. lots of mine have been out for a few yr’s. now and no problem. I have a couple places that are a blue pilot lights and get soaked all of the time. The only thing that is bad on them is the sun light that will fade them sometimes.

Thanks
