Well guys,
I picked up the new LGB SP Mogul today with the short vandy tender. I needed an SP “Slim Princess” to go with some of my Delton SP narrow gauge rolling stock.
As far as LGB Moguls go, she runs great, with some gear noise. I’ll check to see if there’s any grease in her tomorrow.
She smokes as expected.
The sound system is just awful! The worst sound I have heard from an LGB loco.
One chuff per revolution, 4 bell rings, and just one terrible “wooo-eee-wooo” whistle sound when you cross a magnet.
Very disappointed in the sound system. I will replace it at the first opportunity I have.

I was beginning to have hope in LGB when they released their Genisis locomotive which was DCC and sound ready but left the stuff out. That gave a person the opportunity to install the system of their choice rather than pay for one they don’t want and have to tear it out…as it appears you will have to do with the mogul.
I saw this loco here in Durango at the LGB exibit…NOT IMPRESSED…
Pity, but it sounds as if LGB left the 2-4-0 starter set loco sound system in the tender, instead of putting the normal Mogul Digital Sound Sytem in it.
Well, I completely gutted out the el-cheapo sound system, got rid of those ugly trucks and wheels, (replaced with Raymond BB’s and LGB regular trucks), body mounted KD’s, lowered and moved the tender closer to the loco.
I painted the shiny wheels on the loco, bronzed the bell, whistle and pop-valves.
She doesn’t look half bad, now.
