LGB Wye Track 120

While scrolling eBay looking for a few pieces of track, I came across this. I never knew LGB made plastic track, especially a wye. Anyone ever had these or seen them in person?

Interesting. The seller says they were “for the battery Trains they did back in the 70s and 80s.” Didn’t know LGB did battery trains.

@Cliff_Jennings and @John_Wilda ,

Yes, LGB made a number of battery trains based on their m2075 and m21900 diesel. We had the former set, and it included the plastic track. We had some turnouts, too, though I don’t recall them being wyes. Some of the sets included PLAYMOBIL, with whom LGB cooperated through the 1980s. LGB still issues the m2075 variant with a Christmas theme. The 1970s one I played with until she gave out circa 1980, and it became the subject of a nominally successful repower attempt. We got a Christmas set in 2015, and it was of such dubious quality that LGB should be embarrassed. It, too, got a semi-successful repower. If interested, Triple O vs. LGB m2075 Battery Locos, 2025 edition will describe the issues and link back to the main threads trying to bring these locos back into service.

Long answer to an easy question!

Very cool, Eric, I’d never heard of that LGB experiment before. Or their connection with Playmobil.

If you find PLAYMOBIL branded sets, you’ll see them with LGB tracks and power packs. They command a high price on e-Bay. My understanding is that the PLAYMOBIL motor blocks were as reliable as “real” LGB motor blocks. I’ve held one, and the motors and gears certainly seemed compatible. When the kids were younger, I did have my eyes open for PLAYMOBIL trains, but they commanded a relatively high price for something with which I wanted young children to play.

Cool. Found this:

However, Playmobil seemed to sell the track with roadbed cast in, e.g.:

John’s OP has LGB track, without roadbed, and marketed as LGB.

Big difference there, and they don’t look interchangeable.

So I’ll guess that LGB tried a battery loco / plastic track system that was independent of Playmobil, and called it “Super Battery Train.”

Haven’t found that though, or any LGB plastic track. All I’ve found is this adapter from LGB plastic to brass track.

Oh… I think I’m down in a rabbit hole…

I suppose thats my fault, Cliff. Opss! Haha Eric, thanks for sharing! I too had never heard of the connection between LGB and Playmobile.
